Sometimes treatment is fast moving, results are quick and patients walk out feeling instantly better, changed and even sometimes euphoric. Other times, it is slow moving or progress hits a wall and we have to reassess.
We expect this as practitioners and life long students of Chinese medicine, as it speaks to the uniqueness of who we are, the lives we have lived, the food we consume, the stress we absorb, the weight we take on and the way our individual bodies process, store and digest.
In the UK, where we have been brought up to accept quick responding medication for disease, we need to have a lot of faith in our methods, which isn't always easy with what we face in clinic.
As acupuncturists, we often work alone, unable to readily draw on a supportive environment like you might find for nurses on a ward. This week, I joined a supervision group with the wonderful mentor Sarah Matheson, and like-minded practitioners like me who are 6 years or less since graduating. It was so stabilising to feel the openness and support. A space to share cases, treatment ideas, successes, failings, stories and wisdom.
Thank you to all the mentors, teachers, colleges and practitioners who are open to sharing their wisdom with the next generation of practitioners who have a calling to guide people to wellness. It's a very special place to be 🙏
