Strawberry jam โ€ฆ.
Just like Mum used to make โค๏ธ

With the season of delicious berries and fruits here, what better than to make homemade jam ๐Ÿ“

Residents came together and had soon hulled the strawberries , measured out the sugar and prepared the lemons ๐Ÿ‹

With the ingredients placed in the pan they were boiled to make the right consistency to set and once slightly cooled were poured into sterile jars

What a lovely morning which evoked many memories of jam making with Mum and with their own children, with many lovely stories and helpful tips shared along the way

This led to talking about foods we used to eat and those we havenโ€™t had for a long time and miss
One suggestion was raspberry vinegar , which used to be eaten with Yorkshire pudding as a dessert
We all decided next week thatโ€™s what we will have a go at making -
For now we will enjoy our delicious jam
on our toast in the morning -
just perfect๐Ÿ˜€

Experian Volunteers visit Leawood Manor

This week we were so excited to welcome back Volunteers from CRA Experian

The aim of the day was to spend time meeting our Residents, provide social interaction and above all have lots fun together

With our โ€˜ Bee Green and Grow โ€˜ garden competition in full swing we spent a lovely morning planting our re cycled containers we had made the previous week
Residents and volunteers had fun selecting plants to create lovely displays along with painting terracotta pots with some lovely artwork

Everyone pooled ideas, skills and there were lots of stories being shared around the room, lots of laughter even a few bursts of song ๐ŸŽถ
Ruby commented โ€œ itโ€™s been wonderful to meet and chat with different people and learn about each others lives - Iโ€™ve thoroughly enjoyed myselfโ€

In the afternoon we all took part in a sing a long with entertainer, Russell Weaver
Residents, volunteers and family members sang a medley of songs together, literally raising the roof with โ€œ Sweet Carolineโ€ and our resident Terry led the way on the dance floor - your dance moves were amazing Terry!

Our Well being team commented-
this day has been truly amazing and enjoyed by all
Volunteering days like this help bring the Community back into our residents lives and make such a meaningful difference to people living in care homes

On behalf of all the residents and staff here at Leawood a huge โ€œTHANK YOU โ€œ for visiting us and for making beautiful memories togetherโค๏ธ

A special day for a special ladyโ€ฆ..

This week we celebrated a very special day here at Leawood Manor as one of our lovely residents Mary celebrated her 100th Birthday in style ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽˆ

To mark this important occasion Mary enjoyed a lovely get together with her family and friends in the morning and later enjoyed a birthday tea with her friends in Willow lounge

Mary, who was born on 11th July 1925 was excited to celebrate this important milestone
and was overjoyed to receive a card from His Majesty King Charles and Queen Camilla

Everyone was in high spirits throughout the day, especially Mary and she was delighted to see all her family and friends come together to help her celebrate her very special day โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ Bee green and grow. ๐Ÿ

As part of our Garden sustainability project weโ€™ve been working with Phil, our โ€˜Green Championโ€™ to build new planters for our Cherry garden

Keen on recycling, and to support greener living we decided to use old pallets

Residents helped Phil mark out the dimensions and once Phil had cut them, helped him assemble
them ๐Ÿช›
For the final stage, they were given several coats of stain and now they are ready to be planted ๐ŸŒธ

Next week we look forward to welcoming Volunteers from Experian who will spend the morning helping our residents fill them with beautiful blooms - we canโ€™t wait to see the final results๐Ÿ˜€

This has been a great team project encouraging everyone to reimagine waste, connect with nature, and work together to create something truly beautiful and eco-friendly.

Michael took us back over the history of the pub and how the Trent Bridge Cricket ground
was the initiative of William Clarke

"Someone who can make a big difference in the world with just a few words or actions.
An enthusiastic person who is dedicated to improving the lives of others, and has the power to inspire and rally others to bring about positive change"

Here at Leawood Manor we introduced our monthly "Difference Maker" award scheme, to boost the ways we show our appreciation within our staff team.

Visitors, residents, professionals, and fellow employees are invited to nominate individuals who they believe are going above and beyond, with the recipient receiving a gift and a certificate as a token of our gratitude.

We are pleased to announce that Tracey, Care Team Leader is our June 2025 difference maker!

Tracey embodies the mission and values of Leawood Manor daily, promoting dignity for everyone everyday, and through providing quality care and kindness in all that she does.

All that know Tracey will certainly agree that she is a deserving recipient of the
Difference Maker award for June 2025

A huge thank you Tracey for all that you do and all that you achieve for our residents here at Leawood Manor.
