Level 2/5 CPR – AED classes
Recent shocking events are a stark reminder that a cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere and anytime, without warning and even be the first sign of a heart problem. A combination of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and a defibrillator (a device that delivers an electric shock to the heart), means lives can be saved.
Heart and circulatory disease claim around 200,000 lives each year. Many lives could have been saved if a defibrillator was made available, they can restore the heart’s normal rhythm. The sooner the treatment is delivered the better the chance the shock will be successful. With a cardiac arrest, time is everything. It is estimated that the chances of survival are 50% greater if defibrillation is delivered within the first 2 minutes following the onset of cardiac arrest. Heart and circulatory disease claim around 200,000 lives each year. There are 1.4 million people over 35 in the UK who have survived a heart attack.
Every year at schools in the UK, around 270 children die from sudden cardiac arrest, but with correct defibrillation the survival rate can be as high as 75%.
Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) are now becoming more common throughout a range of public and workplaces. A casualty’s survival rate will dramatically increase if an AED is available and if you have appropriately qualified personnel to use it.
Not only does this course deal with the use of an AED but it also includes vital training in resuscitation and choking procedures.
