Christmas Songs from across our homes…..

As part of our Christmas festivities this year, all our homes have decided to record a short version of a Christmas song. Residents and staff have joined together, and there has been lots of fun had making the videos. We hope you enjoy seeing these brief snapshots of Christmas in our homes.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Moriah House. 🎄

Those naughty Elves!!....

Claire, our domestic lady, has had a mischievous time this week being Moriah’s naughty Elf! She has caused havoc in the home. She also set up a scavenger hunt with her mini elf helpers and our residents, Betty & Sharron, followed the clues to find them. Everyone enjoyed a lot of laughs.

Party time!

Every year at Moriah, we throw a Christmas party for our lovely residents. Friday was the big day this year, and there was lots of food, drinks, laughs, and entertainment. You can see from the pictures that everyone had a good time, and it was great to see families coming together for the event. A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. The whole day was a great success, and all our residents are wondering when we can have another one!

A fantastic lunch.....

You can't beat a good Carvery lunch, can you? Well, we don't think so, and so we served up a cracking one recently at Moriah House. It was Christmas themed, of course, and our residents certainly tucked in - there was hardly anything left on the plates at the end of the day. Everything was washed down with a nice drop of Ale and some Fizz. Everyone enjoyed it immensely and thought it was the perfect curtain raiser for the main event on the 25th!

Christmas Creativity....

Everyone likes a nice Christmas card - but these days they can be expensive to buy and even more expensive to send. So our residents thought they would make their own cards to hand out to friends and family. There were some lovely designs on show, and so much nicer to receive something that's hand made. Everyone enjoyed the session and is looking forward to seeing the cards on display.

Wonderland comes to Moriah!

Our lovely residents were given a treat recently when a travelling theatre group brought their version of Alice in Wonderland to the home. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed seeing Alice's adventures. The Queen of Hearts and The Mad Hatter were particular favourites. We all had a great time and are looking forward to a repeat performance.

Getting ready for Christmas.....

Here at Moriah, residents and staff have been hard at work making the home look festive. They all had a great time sorting through the decorations and deciding what should go where. There's more to come but already the home feels really Christmasy...now we're just waiting for Santa to make an appearance!

Marking Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day holds deep significance for many of our residents whose family histories are touched by war, and today we will listen as they share memories from the past. The home will hold a period of silence and make sure that we honour the sacrifice of people in the two World Wars and other conflicts. We hope that going forward we can all learn to live in a more peaceful and harmonious world. We should never forget the sacrifices of those who fought so that we can live as freely as we do today.

Something to cuddle....

We all like something to cuddle now and again, and for some of our residents, having a tactile and sensory experience that comforts is a crucial part of them feeling safe and secure. Here is a picture of our lovely resident Ann, who is very pleased with her new cat Percy. We are sure Percy will be getting lots of cuddles and will be a constant comforting presence by her side.

Parachute fun.....

Normally you would use a parachute when you jump out of a plane. Of course, for our residents that's not really possible any more, but it doesn't mean they can't have fun with one. At Moriah House we play this great game where residents bounce a balloon on the cloth and try and make sure it doesn't land on them. There are always a lot of laughs. It's a great exercise for strengthening arms and also helps engagement and hand eye coordination. All in all a terrific activity.

Engaging Minds.....

We love seeing our residents having fun, and when we can combine that with something that helps promote engagement, memory and motor skills - then that's a great activity. Here are some pictures of our lovely residents playing table top games recently. They have to concentrate, as well as use fine motor skills to move ppieces around the board. To some of us it might just seem like simple snakes and ladders, but to others it can be an important part of staying mentally agile!
