๐ŸŒŸ What is Autism Acceptance Week? ๐ŸŒˆโœจ

Autism Acceptance Week is a time to embrace autism, celebrate uniqueness, and foster understanding. It's about recognising that being neurodivergent is not a limitation, but a different world experience and view.

Join us in spreading awareness and acceptance. Let's challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity. Together, we empower autistic individuals to shine brightly and thrive.

You said you wanted to know more about what specific support we offer, so weโ€™re now publishing our monthly review statistics publicly.

The pie chart above shows the type of support we offered to clients throughout February. 21.43% of clients chose to receive support solely over email, whilst the majority of support still took place through phone appointments.

Note: There were a few clients who did not give consent for us to store their data, who are not represented in these statistics.

A few trends emerged in February which have wider implications to the community. These were:

- Increased awareness of PIP eligibility- almost all autistic adults who contacted us knew they might be eligible for PIP and were taking proactive steps towards this.

- Little awareness of Local Offer- most individuals, and parents of autistic people, hadnโ€™t heard of the local offer, or didnโ€™t know how to access it.

- Financial Hardship- 43% of clients we supported mentioned financial hardship. Most autistic adults who accessed our service mentioned difficulty finding hybrid or remote work following the COVID-19 pandemic, and not knowing what reasonable adjustments to ask for- and when.

For more detailed information, including how weโ€™re changing our service to support these trends, please see our facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/910755520469207/

It's Autism Acceptance Week, a time to celebrate the vibrant diversity within our community and spread awareness about autism acceptance and inclusion. ๐Ÿ’™
๐ŸŒˆ Let's take this opportunity to embrace neurodivergence and celebrate the unique talents, perspectives, and strengths of all autistic individuals. Every person deserves to be accepted for who they are, and this week, let's amplify our efforts to foster a more inclusive society.
๐Ÿค Whether it's through education, advocacy, or simply showing kindness and understanding, each of us can make a difference in promoting acceptance and creating a world where everyone feels valued and respected. Let's work together to build a future where everyone can shine brightly, regardless of their neurology.
So, join us in spreading love, acceptance, and understanding this Autism Acceptance Week! Together, we can create a world where differences are celebrated. ๐Ÿ’–

We will be hosting an informal peer support session at the Citizens Advice Nottingham Office on 05/04/2024 from 11:00-15:00. You can book your place through the link in our caption!

We will start with introductions and an audit of our office where we will go through the sensory accessibility of the space to improve it for future sessions.

We will then have a break for refreshments like tea and biscuits, before starting our group discussion about your favourite (and least favourite!) places in Nottingham, as well as any tips you would give to others about living in Nottinghamshire.

Lastly, there will be an hour drop-in session for anyone wanting more specific 1-to-1 guidance to have appointments with us.

We hope to see you there!
