Meet Georgia, January's Graduate of the Month!
What is your Background?
"My journey into sports massage looks a little different from most. I enrolled on my Level 3 Sports Massage course when I just turned 16 years old, while studying Sports & Exercise Science full-time at college. Knowing I wanted a career in manual therapy and rehabilitation, I was keen to get a head start by gaining practical skills early on.
How have you used your new qualification?
"After gaining my qualification in early 2023, I jumped straight into pre and post-event sports massage opportunities, starting with a local CrossFit open. This opened the door to self-employed work at an injury clinic, where I spent the next year and a half helping hundreds of people, from athletes to office workers. During this time, I took the leap to set up my own practice from a room in my family home, growing gradually and building a solid client base.
Fast forward two years, at 18 years old, I now run my home clinic while also renting space in a busy national gym, Ultra Flex Lincoln, offering a range of sports massage therapy services. Also, i'm currently at university studying Osteopathy, the Sports Massage Academy's Level 3 course played a huge part in strengthening my application."
What did you think of the course you attended?
"I absolutely loved the course! Its flexibility allowed me to balance part-time work and full-time college studies. The support was amazing; our group chat was a fantastic resource for any questions outside of learning time (and we still have it today!), alongside a Facebook group for additional advice and tips.
Since qualifying, I've gone on to complete multiple CPD courses with the Sports Massage Academy, including cupping, IASTM, foot and ankle mobilisation, and my clients' favourite, deep tissue facial massage. The tutors are incredibly knowledgeable and always on hand to answer any questions, both during the course and after. The number of courses I've chosen to complete with the academy speaks volumes about their support and quality. I couldn't recommend them enough!"
What would you say to anyone looking to train in Sports Massage Therapy?
"Don't wait for the "perfect time". Just take the leap and get started! You'll surprise yourself with how much you can achieve. And remember, no one ever knows everything. Stay curious, stay motivated, and always be open to learning and growing."
