Mr Edward Alabraba is a consultant general surgeon specialising in treating hernias and managing problems of the gallbladder, pancreas and liver.

Edward Alabraba is passionate about minimal access surgery and undertakes laparoscopic gallbladder, liver and pancreas surgery.

Edward Alabraba undertook medical training at the University of Birmingham. After completing his early years of junior doctor training, he successfully completed a research project funded by a grant from the UK Medical Research Council (UK MRC) exploring a protective role of Immune cells in Liver Inflammation at the University of Birmingham. This prestigious research led to the award of a higher degree; Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Alongside his research, he received clinical training at the Liver Transplant Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr Karuppiah, Foot and ankle consultant, offers a private and NHS practice here at Woodthorpe Hospital.

Mr Karuppiah has an MBBS in Medicine from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and went on to begin his surgical career in Scotland. He completed his further training on the National Orthopaedic Training Programme in the East Midlands.

Complementing Mr Karuppiah's clinical practice and educational history, he has an esteemed teaching and academic research career. He was a clinical tutor at the University of Aberdeen, has had his work published in respected international journals and regularly organises and presents at national and international seminars.

He is a fellow (FRCS) of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and also a member of the esteemed organisation (MRCS), alongside the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS), British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the British Medical Association (BMA).

Let's talk diagnostic Laparoscopy 👩‍⚕️

Diagnostic laparoscopy in Gynaecology is used to diagnose:

• 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 – where small pieces of your womb lining are found outside your womb
• 𝗙𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱𝘀 – non-cancerous tumours that grow in or around your womb
• 𝗢𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝘆𝘀𝘁 – fluid-filled sac in your o***y
• 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 (𝗣𝗜𝗗) – a bacterial infection of your upper ge***al tract (womb, fallopian tubes and ovaries)
• 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 – include urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

The laparoscopy is typically performed under general anaesthetic and takes 30 to 60 minutes. It involves making a small cut near your belly button and inserting a thin tube containing a light and camera, known as a laparoscope, to look inside your abdomen and pelvis.
