There is now an amber warning for snow from 8:00pm on Thursday 8 January until 9:00am on Friday 9 January for Western parts of Nottinghamshire.
Consider whether any journeys you have planned are really necessary. See below for a summary of key advice 👇

⚠️ Storm Goretti - what you need to know in Nottinghamshire ‼️

We know what you're thinking - 'another post about the weather from the county council,' but hear us out because there's been a few changes to the forecast since our last post yesterday!

Yesterday we told you that a yellow weather warning for snow had been issued for Nottinghamshire from Thursday evening into Friday, and this alert has now changed to:

🟠 An amber weather warning for snow for western parts of Nottinghamshire from 8pm on Thursday 8 January until 9am on Friday 9 January.

🟡 A yellow weather warning for snow for all of Nottinghamshire from 5pm on Thursday 8 January until midday on Friday 9 January.

What hasn't changed though is our advice for staying safe in winter weather. Please consider whether your journey is necessary and don't travel if you don't need to. Here's a summary of our key advice from yesterday's post:

❗ Clear ALL of your screen and don't drive with just a small hole in the snow and ice.

✅ Check your screen wash and fuel levels and make sure that tyres meet legal requirements.

⏰ Plan ahead, aim to travel on main roads and leave plenty of time for your journey.

🚘 Pull off in second gear and move away slowly. When braking, leave plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles and apply brakes gently.

🧣 Pack some essentials in your car including warm clothing, appropriate footwear, a scraper and refreshments.

💚 Check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may may struggle during colder weather if you can.

Review of Cemetery Memorials - Consultation

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee has recently made a series of recommendations regarding the placement of memorials at gravesides. These recommendations represent a change from the current rules and regulations, where such memorials have not previously been permitted. You can read the Overview and Scrutiny Report which outlines the recommendations.

There are also some other recommendations that require careful consideration to ensure they are inclusive and accessible for all members of the community.

The Council is seeking your views to understand the potential impacts of these recommendations and any suggestions for improvements.

The consultation should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and will close on Friday, 16 January 2026.

If you would prefer a paper copy, these are available at:

· The Council Offices in Beeston
· The Crematorium at Bramcote

Alternatively, you can call the Customer Services Team on 0115 917 7777, and the team will arrange to post a paper copy to you.

A happy retirement to our very own Tony the tiger. After 20 years with us and 60 years since he started his working life, this chapter is well earned. Thank you Tony, your warmth, laughter and friendship means the world to our team and we will miss you. Thanks to everyone who sent messages, gifts and came to his leaving presentation.

At the start of National Grief Week, we are reminded that grief touches every life, especially at this time of year. Our Memorial Christmas tree now stands in honour of those who are no longer with us. Please come along and dedicate one of our tags.

Today is the start of National Grief Awareness Week, an initiative set up and run by The Good Grief Trust to raise awareness of the impact of grief and loss on a national platform. A time to come together and support those who are grieving and to let them know they are not alone in their grief. The theme this year is ‘Growing with Grief.’

‘Losing a loved one feels like an ending in so many ways, but in time, it can also become the ground from which something new begins. 'Growing with Grief' highlights how we can work together to find ways to become stronger, healthier by laying down roots for the future. The campaign acknowledges that, after a loss, we can't go back to the person we once were, but can instead grow into someone new, shaped by love, memories and resilience. This growth doesn't erase the pain, but it does allow HOPE to return. We may even become more present, more compassionate, more aware of what truly matters in life.’

Join us in the wave of light tonight at 7.00pm as we remember the baby’s born sleeping, those that were carried but never held, those who were held but could not be taken home, those who came home but could not stay.

🧠💚 World Mental Health Day – You Matter

Today, we pause to recognise the importance of mental health, for ourselves, our colleagues, and our community.

Whether you're grieving, supporting others, or simply navigating life’s ups and downs, your feelings are valid. You are not alone.

At Bramcote, we believe in creating spaces of comfort, dignity, and understanding. If you need a quiet moment, a kind word, or someone to talk to, we’re here.

Let’s keep checking in on each other. Let’s keep making mental well-being a priority, not just today, but every day.
