Recent research has found that adding osteopathic treatment to neck exercises had a short term effect to improving pain. However, in the long term, outcomes where the same in reducing pain. The only difference being that people who received osteopathic treatment where more likely to stick to the exercises they where given. Those who did not receive treatment alongside their exercise stopped doing the exercises around 50%of the time.

Ash came to visit us recently with neck pain had had the following to say on his experience.

“I visited Excel Therapy recently with a back/neck complaint that was a 'nagging injury', which had gotten more painful. I work in sport but the organisation I work for couldn't provide the treatment I needed, so I booked an appointment with Excel Therapy based on some excellent word of mouth reviews I had received from other people I know that work in sport and fitness. I was amazed with the venue, staff and overall treatment. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the Lace Market and the clinic itself has a professional but friendly vibe, which made me feel comfortable from the offset. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the treatment was excellent, with acupuncture to relieve tension, and a fusion of osteopathic and sports therapy to treat the troublesome area. The next day, I felt significantly better than I had in weeks! Needless to say, I will be going back to Scott and his team for future treatment based on the excellent quality of treatment, affordability and friendly approach. All in all, an excellent service- you won't find better in the East Midlands and beyond”

We commonly prescribe scalene stretches for neck pain

• Sit with good posture
• Place one hand on the top of your head and gently pull your head to the side.
• Feel a stretch to the opposite side of your neck
• Ensure to keep the eyes and nose facing forward throughout
• Hold until it eases

The vast network of nerves exiting through the lumbar spine facet joints is known as the lumbar plexus and supplies movement and sensation from the lower body, the largest of these nerves is Sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body, originating at the base of the spine and running along the back of each leg into the foot. it provides sensation to the back of the thigh, calf and foot, whilst providing stimulation to the hamstring, adductor, calf and foot muscles. At its thickest point, it is about as wide as an adult thumb
