☀️ Staying Safe in the Heat – Advice from Balmore Country House Care Home...
With temperatures rising during this heatwave, it’s important to take extra care — especially for our elderly community. Here are some simple but essential tips to help everyone stay safe and comfortable in the warm weather:
💧 Keep Hydrated
Encourage regular sips of water throughout the day, even if you're not thirsty. Offer water, squash, or hydrating snacks like fruit and jelly.
🌡️ Stay Cool Indoors
Keep blinds or curtains closed during the hottest parts of the day (11am–3pm) and open windows when it's cooler in the morning or evening. Use fans where appropriate.
🧢 Dress Lightly
Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if heading outdoors. Avoid heavy or dark fabrics.
🌳 Limit Time in Direct Sun
If going outside, seek shaded areas and avoid peak sun hours. Always apply SPF 30+ suncream.
🥗 Offer Light Meals
Lighter meals such as salads, cold meats, fruit, and yoghurt are easier to digest and help maintain energy.
❤️ Look Out for Signs of Overheating
Watch for dizziness, confusion, headaches, or tiredness. If you’re concerned about someone’s wellbeing, speak to a member of staff or seek medical advice.
At Balmore Country House, we’re taking extra steps to ensure our residents are staying cool, hydrated, and well-supported throughout the hot weather.
Let’s all take care of ourselves and each other this summer 🌞
