Woodland Burial Company

Woodland Burial Company Woodland Burial Company provides lasting, personal and private resting places for your loved one. Hope you like it dad.

The Woodland Burial Company are proud of our approach to the difficult subject that is the death of a loved one. We believe that we should all try and leave the world a better place than when we arrived in it. Through the provision of our woodland interment plots for cremated remains and full cadaver committals, we give the opportunity to leave a legacy that will benefit our native woodlands and w

ildlife for generations to come, whilst also providing a tranquil and peaceful setting for the memories and mourning of those left in the present. From our own experiences of bereavement, we have created what we felt we needed at that time, delivered in a way we would of appreciated. The company follows the ecological ethics and teachings of Granville Graham.

Another beautiful nook created at Granville's Wood by our wonderful site team.

Each nook has a little space around it for nature to flourish throughout the woodland. This also keeps areas untouched for moss, lichen and flowers to remain undisturbed.

Keeping a balance between the needs of our families and the needs of the woodland is a delicate thing and we are always striving to improve.

We will be launching some new products to specifically support insects in the very near future.

This is Benedict the Bee who featured on the front page of our brochure for a few years. Bees are an essential part of our eco system and we hope our new solitary bee habitats will prove a big hit.

This Saturday celebrates both Forests and Poetry with international awareness days. We used to regularly share a nature poem, so here is one of our favourites to enjoy.

When Great Trees Fall, by Maya Angelou
When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.

When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.
Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.

Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.
Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance,
fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of dark, cold
caves.

And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

As well as the bluebells that everyone loves, Spring will also see the arrival of ferns. We think these plants are also beautiful in their own way.

Ferns provide shelter and shade as well as a tasty snack for many of the woodland creatures. They are able to survive in shady spots, which is why they thrive in woodlands. They are also very hardy.

If you visit the woodland often, you might get to see some unfurling.

Lots of people ask if they can plant bulbs or shrubs in their plot. Firstly, thank you for asking! Nothing can be added to the woodland without checking as we have to prove the provenance and suitability of every addition.

While we agree that plants and flowers are beautiful and add colour and food to the woodland. Experience has shown that planting is mostly unsuccessful. What isn’t eaten by the squirrels finds the soil too alkaline or the lack of light too difficult.

We would rather you save your money and avoid the disappointment. Trees are more successful and we have a list of species that can be added.

It’s nearly blubell time and they always bring a smile.

Our nooks can be single, double or family sized. This allows couples or family groups to be together always.

Once a nook is purchased, it can then be used at need with only a burial or interment fee. Many of our customers express their delight at being able to use the space for walking, bird watching or just a peaceful sit down years before they plan to make it their final resting place.

Feel free to contact us for a brochure, or look online.

The first signs of Spring are beginning to arrive. Do tread carefully as some of the bulbs are sprouting.

Increased flora and fungi means an increase in the wildlife activity too. If you're having a walk, or a sit down in the woods, do listen to the array of life all around.

Spring can be a very restorative time of year, as can spending time in nature. We hope our burial ground offers support and wonder.
