Woodland Burial Company

Woodland Burial Company Woodland Burial Company provides lasting, personal and private resting places for your loved one. Hope you like it dad.

The Woodland Burial Company are proud of our approach to the difficult subject that is the death of a loved one. We believe that we should all try and leave the world a better place than when we arrived in it. Through the provision of our woodland interment plots for cremated remains and full cadaver committals, we give the opportunity to leave a legacy that will benefit our native woodlands and wildlife for generations to come, whilst also providing a tranquil and peaceful setting for the memories and mourning of those left in the present. From our own experiences of bereavement, we have created what we felt we needed at that time, delivered in a way we would of appreciated. The company follows the ecological ethics and teachings of Granville Graham.

Lots of people ask if they can plant bulbs or shrubs in their plot. Firstly, thank you for asking! Nothing can be added to the woodland without checking as we have to prove the provenance and suitability of every addition.

While we agree that plants and flowers are beautiful and add colour and food to the woodland. Experience has shown that planting is mostly unsuccessful. What isn’t eaten by the squirrels finds the soil too alkaline or the lack of light too difficult.

We would rather you save your money and avoid the disappointment. Trees are more successful and we have a list of species that can be added.

It’s nearly blubell time and they always bring a smile.

Our nooks can be single, double or family sized. This allows couples or family groups to be together always.

Once a nook is purchased, it can then be used at need with only a burial or interment fee. Many of our customers express their delight at being able to use the space for walking, bird watching or just a peaceful sit down years before they plan to make it their final resting place.

Feel free to contact us for a brochure, or look online.

The first signs of Spring are beginning to arrive. Do tread carefully as some of the bulbs are sprouting.

Increased flora and fungi means an increase in the wildlife activity too. If you're having a walk, or a sit down in the woods, do listen to the array of life all around.

Spring can be a very restorative time of year, as can spending time in nature. We hope our burial ground offers support and wonder.

Each year we produce an Impact Report to review the amazing things our families and our business have been doing to create positive ripples for the environment.

The full report will be on our website this week if you'd like to see more. We also send a more formal written report to the Council, who make sure that we are meeting our obligations to the land.

It's a great way to see how small steps can build into real impact. Thank you to all our families and suppliers.

Saturday is National Education Day - we love to encourage people to learn about woodlands and the plants and wildlife that use them.

We use apps like Merlin Bird ID and Wylder to help with learning to identify flora and fauna, or to inspire us to connect with nature in new ways.

How do you learn about the world around you? Any recommendations for apps, websites or books for us all?

Please be careful when visiting the woods during this artic blast.

Wear appropriate clothing, especially boots or shoes. Luckily the layer of pine needles and general coverage means our paths are fairly protected. However, your journey to and from the woodland may need some extra thought.

Keep safe!

Further Update: to ensure access for families at this often challenging time of year, we will now be dealing with the fallen tree first thing tomorrow morning.

Update: the tree will need more than one person to move it. We will have two staff attending on Saturday 27th. It’s possible another woodland owner, or Woodlands For Sale, will clear it before then, but that is out of our hands.

We have been made aware of an obstruction on the main walk down to Walton Woods, which our families use to reach Granvilles Wood. Our site manager has kindly gone in on his day off to assess the situation, and we will update as and when we can.

Huge thanks to Jay - we are lucky to have you.
