Sometimes we want even our Yin practice to be a little slower and softer, especially when we may be struggling a little in the heat with fatigue or lack of sleep.

Over the last week or so I've found that this has been the case in my classes, not all of us will be energised by the sun so it's always important to check in with what you need.
This morning we used the wall as a prop, in tonights class we will do a lot of reclining always followed by a nourishing shavasana.

The main thing is to listen to your body, it will tell you what you need 🙏

I'm really looking forward to my upcoming workshop which will be a full day session on Saturday the 5th July from 10am -3pm at the Elephant Rooms in Draycott.

This will be an immersive yoga experience focused on something we all hold within us — Joy. Whether we call it happiness, contentment (Santosa), or that inner glow that lights us up, this workshop will guide us into finding ways of reconnecting with that spark.

We'll explore how joy arises from within — not from external circumstances — through the powerful lens of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the inner practices of yoga including asana, meditation and pranayama.

🧘‍♀️ Morning Session:
A heart-opening Hatha flow to energise and awaken the body — designed to challenge and uplift us.

🌿 Lunch Break:
Relax in the peaceful outdoor space at The Elephant Rooms. Tea and coffee will be available — just bring your own lunch and enjoy a mindful pause in nature.

🧘‍♂️ Afternoon Session:
We continue the theme with a nourishing Yin yoga practice to soften and soothe, incorporating Meditation and Pranayama to support emotional balance and encourage a joyful state.

✨ Open to those with some yoga experience (not suitable for complete beginners).
✨ Mats, blankets, and props available, or feel free to bring your own.
✨ Booking essential via Bookwhen (link in bio) or email yvonnepatrickyoga@gmail.com for more info.

Lovely practice last night in the garden of the in which we focused on the rhythms of nature and the fact that we are made up of both Yin & Yang energies. So appropriate to remember as we head into the Solstice.

What could be better than practicing in nature, listening to the birds, trees and water? 🙏

I was fortunate over the weekend to go on a wonderful yoga retreat with my wonderful teacher Andrea—and it was exactly what I needed.

Being in nature, with wide open skies, solitude, and silence (apart from the birds)... I had space to just be. At the start, we were asked: Why are you here? And unlike other times, it wasn’t to deepen a pose or “improve” anything. This time, I came simply for rest, for quiet, to reconnect with myself—which sounds simple, but in the busyness of life, we can so easily forget who we are and lose ourselves a bit.

Yoga, after all, is about remembering who we are and yoking back to self.

Of course, I also received the gift of community, nourishing food, and powerful practice—challenging in every way: physical, emotional, spiritual.

I returned feeling full, grateful and reconnected 🙏

My next workshop will be a full day session on Saturday the 5th July at 10-3 at the Elephant Rooms with a focus on joy.

The spark of Joy lies within us all, whether we refer to it as Happiness or Contentment (Santosa), that thing that "lights" us up and gives us an "inner"glow. Joy to me, can be as simple as watching the birds in my garden, it will be different for everyone but we all have the capacity to feel it.

In Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, he talks about gaining joy as a result of being content, however this state of contentment comes from within us not from outside of ourselves.

In Yoga we learn to cultivate an appreciation for the internal practices that allow us to know and study ourselves on a deeper level (Svadhyaya). This may be through the practice of Asana, Meditation, Pranayama or Mantra, all of these limbs teach us something about ourselves and how we relate to the World around us. The more content we are within ourselves the more comfortable we can be out in the World.

The morning session will be a physical Hatha practice designed to challenge and fire us up a little, focusing on heart opening poses.

During the lunch break there will be time to spend time in the lovely outside space at the Elephant Rooms.

The afternoon session will be a Yin practice continuing with the theme of promoting joy. Meditation and Pranayama practices will be incorporated into the day.

Please note the session will not be suitable for complete beginners to yoga.

Mats, blankets etc are available at the venue but feel free to bring your own equipment. Herbal teas and coffee will be available but please bring your own lunch.

I still have a few spaces for my upcoming workshop this Saturday May 17th 13:30-15:30 at the Elephant Rooms.
This Yin Workshop, I've called, "a quiet practice designed to still the mind."
It is said that our energy follows our thoughts: "Where the mind goes, Chi flows."
It makes sense therefore that if we want our energy (chi) to flow in a positive direction, we also would require our thoughts to be positive and encouraging in nature, leading to favourable outcomes. This isn't always so easy when life and distractions get in the way.

Ways in which we can achieve success in this area are by manifesting, intention or goal setting and practiscing greater awareness/mindfulness.
In yoga we talk about stilling the citta vrittis, the whirlings of the mind. We aim for peace and calm, avoiding our thoughts taking us off in a direction that we seem to have no control over.

Gently quietening the mind takes skill, and is a practice that we need to come back to time and time again to have success. We aim to become the observer of the mind, not being pulled in by our thoughts. The result of achieving a calming of the mind can mean that we have less stress and more balance in our lives.

During this Yin session we will explore ways in which we can be still and quiet with ourselves using Yin postures, pranayama and meditation.

Please note the session may not be suitable for complete beginners to Yin Yoga.
