Have you ever tried Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra, often called “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation technique that brings you into a deep state of conscious relaxation.
It’s practiced lying down in savasana (co**se pose), while I guiding you through various stages of relaxation, including:
* Setting a Sankalpa (intention)
* Body scan (rotating consciousness through the body)
* Breath awareness
* Visualization
* Detachment from thoughts
Though it may feel like sleep, the mind remains conscious while the body enters a profoundly restful state.
🧘 Benefits of Yoga Nidra
1. Deep Relaxation
It activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), helping to relieve physical tension and mental stress.
2. Reduces Anxiety & Depression
Studies have shown it lowers anxiety and depressive symptoms by calming the nervous system and reducing overactivity in stress centers of the brain.
3. Improves Sleep
Yoga Nidra can improve sleep quality and combat insomnia by training the body and mind to relax deeply.
4. Enhances Focus and Clarity
By practicing stillness and internal awareness, Yoga Nidra can sharpen mental focus and reduce mental clutter.
5. Balances the Nervous System
It supports autonomic nervous system balance, making it helpful for people dealing with PTSD, burnout, or chronic stress.
6. Emotional Healing
The practice creates a safe space for suppressed emotions to surface gently, allowing for healing and release.
7. Accessible to All
It requires no physical movement beyond lying down, making it ideal for people of all ages, abilities, and physical conditions.
🕒 Typical Duration
My Yoga Nidra class lasts 1 hour and my class at Elephant rooms on 6th September also has an extra hour for food and includes yoga nidra, vegan curries, rice and mango lassi too!
