A bit of a role reversal for me today and a lovely catch up with one of my hypnotherapy course buddies.

It was my turn to be in the therapy chair while she practised a technique she’s been working on. It’s not often I get to fully switch off and experience hypnotherapy from the other side any more, and it was such a valuable reminder of just how powerful that space can be.

There’s something really special about allowing yourself to simply relax, be guided, and let your mind do what it needs to do.

Grateful for the experience — and for the opportunity to keep learning and growing, both as a therapist and as a person 😊.

I’ve caught myself this morning worrying about my daughter going back to school next week.

After two weeks of the Easter holidays, she’s been happy, relaxed… just herself.

And now the worry is creeping in

“What if she struggles going back to school?”

Sometimes she does.
Sometimes she finds it really hard to go in.
And after a break, I never quite know how it’s going to be.

And if I’m honest, my mind can run ahead and start imagining all the difficult mornings before they’ve even happened.

But the future I’m worrying about hasn’t happened.

And if my mind is going to imagine something…
I can gently bring it back to something kinder.

Maybe she copes.
Maybe she surprises me.
Maybe it’s easier than I expect.

The present moment is the only place life is actually happening.

And sometimes, that’s a much calmer place to be 💚

“I said I wouldn’t do that again…”

It’s a thought most people have had at some point.

- After the extra scrolling.
- After reaching for something out of habit.
- After putting something off again.

And often what follows is frustration… or even a bit of self-criticism.

It can feel like a lack of discipline, like you should be able to “just stop”.

But when something keeps repeating, it’s usually not about willpower.

It’s often a pattern your mind has learned for a reason — something that once helped, even in a small way.

The difficulty is, those patterns don’t update just because you’ve decided you want something different.

That’s why it can feel like you’re stuck in the same loop, even when you’re trying.

Hypnotherapy works by helping to update those patterns at the level they’re actually running — so change feels more natural, rather than like a constant effort.

A different approach, rather than more pressure.

If you’ve ever had that “why did I do that again?” moment, you’re definitely not alone.

When habits run on autopilot…

Often it’s the smaller habits that quietly frustrate people day after day.

– reaching for food when you’re not really hungry
– scrolling on your phone longer than you meant to
- intending to exercise but never quite making it off the sofa

Habits like these often happen almost automatically. You might even hear yourself saying, “Why did I just do that?” or “I said I wouldn’t do that again.”

Most habits start as the mind’s way of coping with something — stress, boredom, distraction, and over time they simply become the brain’s well-worn path.

Hypnotherapy can help interrupt those automatic patterns and create space for a different response.

Not through force or strict discipline, but by working with the part of the mind where those habits are stored and finding alternative coping mechanisms.

Which automatic habits are leaving you frustrated?

You don’t have to wait until it feels “bad enough”.

A lot of people put off getting support because they think their problem isn’t serious enough.

They tell themselves things like:
“I should be able to handle this.”
“Other people have it much worse.”
“It’s not really that bad.”

But the truth is, you don’t have to be at breaking point to benefit from support.

Often people come to hypnotherapy because they’re simply tired of feeling or being a certain way.

💭 Tired of overthinking.
😟 Tired of habits that don’t fit the person they want to be.
🍰 Tired of feeling like willpower should be enough.

It doesn’t have to be dramatic or urgent.

Sometimes it’s just a quiet decision that you’d like things to change.

And that’s more than enough reason to start.

There’s something about this time of year, as the daffodils begin to bloom, that naturally aligns with growth.

One area of growth that hypnotherapy has helped me with is confidence. For me, it’s been about trusting my abilities more, having more clarity, being ready to start new things and less likely to second-guess myself.

Confidence can mean different things for different people. The work isn’t usually about fixing something that’s broken — it’s about self-discovery and strengthening what’s already there.

When your inner voice feels calmer and more supportive, decisions feel easier and you trust yourself more. A quiet confidence that can change a lot.

Spring doesn’t force growth. It creates the right conditions for it — and that’s often how hypnotherapy works too.

If you’re curious or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Wondering what to expect?

One of the most common things people say before booking is…
“I don’t know what to expect.”

So here’s what a first session with me is actually like.

We talk. The first session involves gathering information and understanding what’s been happening for you. I’ll ask about what’s been going on, what you’d like to be different, and what might be driving things beneath the surface. We go at your pace.

If you feel comfortable, we then move into hypnosis. Hypnosis is a focused state of directed attention, where we utilise your imagination to help you achieve your goals. You’re aware throughout, and you can move or speak at any time if you wish. There’s no swinging watch. No loss of control.

The hypnotherapy process involves guiding you into hypnosis (this is called the induction), and then beginning the therapeutic work. This will include carefully tailored suggestions designed to support the changes you want to make.

If appropriate — and often in subsequent sessions — we may move into more analytical work, gently exploring where certain patterns began and helping your mind update responses that are no longer helpful.

My role isn’t to “do something to you”. It’s a collaborative process where I guide you into a state where change feels safe, natural and achievable.

You don’t have to be a certain type of person.
You don’t have to be “good at relaxing”.
You just need to be willing and open-minded.

If you’re curious but nervous, that’s completely normal — and I’m always happy to answer questions.

A lot of the time there isn’t one big reason — it’s simply that someone is tired of the way things are.

- Tired of overthinking.
- Tired of feeling on edge for no clear reason.
- Tired of knowing what they “should” do, but not being able to make it stick.

Hypnotherapy can sometimes be a relatively quick solution to a specific issue, and sometimes a more gradual journey of self-discovery. Often it relates to things like:
– anxiety
– low confidence or self-doubt
– people-pleasing and guilt
– feeling stuck or overwhelmed

If any of this resonates, you’re not alone — and you don’t need to have a “big” problem to benefit.

🙀Hypnotherapy myth busting 🙀

You’re always in control with hypnotherapy!

I remember watching the Paul McKenna stage shows as a kid and being totally fascinated… but also thinking “there’s no way I’d ever get on that stage!”

Stage hypnosis is designed to entertain. Therapeutic hypnotherapy is very different.
You don’t lose control and you don’t do anything you don’t want to do.

In hypnotherapy, you’re aware, you can talk, move, laugh, stop at any point. It is a collaborative process where you are guided to access your inner resources.

I’ve enjoyed working with habits like nail biting recently, and it’s often much simpler than people may expect.

We start by noticing when and why the habit shows up — the triggers - for example, moments of stress, boredom or an automatic response. From there, we look at introducing a new, equally soothing but more supportive behaviour to meet the same need.

My work is always tailored to the specific needs of my client, where sometimes exploring the deeper cause of a habit is helpful and sometimes it isn’t necessary at all.

What matters most is helping the nervous system feel supported and giving it a safer, kinder option.
