Some parents choose to share a bed with their baby. Many parents fall asleep without meaning to, with the baby in bed with them.

The Lullaby Trust provides information on how to co sleep more safely. There are some situations when co-sleeping is very dangerous and should be avoided. These include after drinking alcohol, if anyone in the bed smokes, if anyone has taken drugs or medication causing drowsiness or if your baby was premature.

Sleeping on a sofa is very dangerous for a baby and should always be avoided. It increases the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) by up to 50 times.

The recommended room temperature for a sleeping baby is 16-20 degrees Celsius. In the colder months it can be tempting to wrap your baby up to keep them warm and cosy. However it’s important to remember that babies can overheat and this increases the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Baby sleep bags are a good option for safer sleep They help stop your baby from wriggling down under covers and getting their head covered.
