Some parents choose to share a bed with their baby. Many parents fall asleep without meaning to, with the baby in bed with them.
The Lullaby Trust provides information on how to co sleep more safely. There are some situations when co-sleeping is very dangerous and should be avoided. These include after drinking alcohol, if anyone in the bed smokes, if anyone has taken drugs or medication causing drowsiness or if your baby was premature.
Sleeping on a sofa is very dangerous for a baby and should always be avoided. It increases the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) by up to 50 times.
