Meet Jess, She Challenged Herself In The Competition Season!

Competing isn’t for everyone, but if it’s something you’ve always wanted to do, for me, I’d rather give it a go than live with regret and what-ifs.

There was never much in terms of complaining with Jess. Those of you who have been through an intense cutting phase before know that it’s not supposed to be easy, or everyone would be walking around peeled.

We had a plan, she executed it without any hindrance and reaped the rewards.

Not just with bodybuilding but doing anything hard and challenging shows us what we’re made of (or not). Overcoming hurdles in life ALWAYS makes us stronger and more resilient.

“I started with bren towards the middle of 2024 as i was a bit in limbo with my training no clear goals with nutrition and training, we got a plan in place and got me back on track almost instantly and back being accountable. across the last year and a half my goals did change from being 100% focused on the gym and nutrition and just caring about the visual aspects from the gym to being a more mental goal to get me to have a more balanced lifestyle where i can still enjoy meals our and also having a few pints with my mates and partner. Bren was more then happy to alter my goals dependent on what i wanted but still gave his view and perspective on what would and could be the best options for me allowing me to make the final decision. one of the best decisions i made signing up and would recommend to anyone inside and out the gym if they need to get a bit more accountable with not only the gym but even just simply eating more healthy.”

🌍You don’t coast through your session sat on your phone, or thinking about what’s for dinner. You treat every working set like it’s the one that defines your entire physique.

🫣When the reps get seriously hard, ask yourself: If your kid was watching you train, would they be impressed or let down?

Loss, pain, breakups all hurt, that’s a given.
You sit there replaying everything, trying to figure out what went wrong but truth is, it doesn’t matter.

Now it’s about you.

That pain?
Use it.
Channel it into something you control. YOU, your body, your discipline, your life.

You can either sit around feeling sorry for yourself or walk into the gym and build the version of you that says “F**k you” to those who left you alone in the dark.

Let them crack on.
You need to get better, and now you can.

What someone else is doing is none of your business. Focus all of your energy and attention on yourself and what you can’t control.

You Don’t Need Perfection
You Need Consistency

You go all in Monday to Friday, training, dieting, no slip-ups. Excellent.

Then one slip up and suddenly it’s a weekend binge and a “start fresh Monday.”

That’s why you never progress. You keep restarting instead of sustaining.
You may think consistency means perfection but it doesn’t. It means momentum. Putting one foot in front of the other going towards progress.

In my coaching, we don’t chase perfection we chase progression that adds up over time.

You’ll learn how to adapt and keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you.

One of my clients, Client, Sam used to quit every time he missed a session.
After convincing him that a poor session is better than no session at all, 15 weeks deep, 7kg down, and hasn’t had a “f**k it” weekend once.

“After retiring from fighting I didn’t feel any need/desire to train, nothing to aim for. I coach my own clients but this didn’t give me motivation to train myself. I put this forward to Bren and he has worked a plan for me and got me back into the gym properly, gave me accountability and discipline again, and targets and goals to hit along the way. He really knows his stuff too!”

Louis’ lean gain phase is going well it seems.

What did we do?

- Upped the cals nearly every week. Was a shock at first but now she likes the extra cals
- Trained with intensity and relevance
- Keep it simple, Lou stuck the plan every week and surprise surprise, has made amazing progress 💰

ℹ️MINI-CUT 101: Why & When To Use It

A mini-cut is a short, aggressive fat-loss phase (2–6 weeks) designed to drop fat and excess water fast without losing muscle tissue.

Benefits:
• Rapid fat loss (0.5–1.5% bodyweight/week)
• Reset sloppy off-season eating
• Easier to push calories again after
• Keeps your growth phases cleaner

When to use:
• You’ve gained too much fat in off-season
• Progress has stalled
• Need a quick tidy-up for an event or shoot
• Want a mental reset and discipline kick

When not to use:
• You’re already lean approx sub 10% bf (risk losing muscle)
• You’ve just finished a prep and metabolism is fried
• Chronic low calories or poor recovery

How to run it:
• Duration: 2–6 weeks
• Calories: 20–30% below maintenance
• Protein: 2.2–3 g/kg
• Keep heavy lifting, trim accessory work
• Add 2–5 cardio sessions weekly
• Prioritise 7–9 hours sleep

Leave the cut by reversing up to maintenance over 1–2 weeks, don’t rebound binge!

Conclusion:
Mini-cuts aren’t magic. But when timed right, they’re a razor-sharp tool to clean you up and set you up for more muscle growth.
