A urinary tract infection (UTI) can cause discomfort, pain, and irritation—but help is closer than you think! Under the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacist can offer expert advice, assess your symptoms, and provide treatment without needing a GP appointment.

Common UTI symptoms:
✅ A burning sensation when urinating
✅ Needing to p*e more often and urgently

✅ Pain in your lower tummy or back

What to do if you think you have a UTI?
🔹 Visit your nearest pharmacy—no need for a GP appointment!
🔹 Drink plenty of water to help flush out bacteria.

🚨 Missed Appointments Are Costing the NHS 🚨
❗️ In September alone, 10 patients each missed 2 or more appointments without cancelling.
❗️ Over the past 6 months, 163 patients have failed to attend 2 or more appointments.
❗️ In September, we issued 131 text messages and 85 letters reminding patients of their missed appointments — at a cost to the NHS.
❗️ 89 of these appointments were booked in advance using our online triage or via booking links sent to patients
💬 Every missed appointment is a wasted opportunity for another patient in need.
💥 These absences impact your care, our staff, and already stretched NHS resources.
✅ If you can’t attend, please cancel in advance — it takes a minute, but it makes a massive difference.

📄 Read our DNA Policy (Did Not Attend) found on our website.

The Pharmacy First scheme allows individuals to seek professional advice and treatment for a variety of common illnesses and conditions without needing a GP appointment. This is available to people aged over 1 year old in some areas, making healthcare support more accessible. 💊

Conditions they can offer prescription medicine for are:

• impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
• infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
• earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
• sore throat (aged 5 years and over)
• sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
• urinary tract infections (UTIs) (women aged 16 to 64 years)
• shingles (aged 18 years and over)

If you’re unsure whether your symptoms can be treated this way, your local pharmacist is the first point of contact. It’s quick, convenient, and effective for non-urgent health issues.
