It is with great sadness that the Mary Ann Evans Hospice announces the closure of its fully charity funded Lymphoedema Service, effective from 30 January 2026.
Mary Ann launched a pilot Lymphoedema Service in January 2009 in response to a growing gap in provision for patients living in Nuneaton, Bedworth, North Warwickshire and the surrounding communities, expanding the service further in 2011.
Despite ongoing and regular lobbying for NHS financial support for this vital service, Mary Ann is no longer able to sustain delivery through charitable funds alone. Due to current financial constraints, a decision was made in late 2025 to close the service. The Hospice has reached the point where it can no longer maintain a locally based service for patients within North Warwickshire without statutory support.
This is a sad day for Mary Ann Evans Hospice, but it also offers a moment to reflect on the invaluable care delivered to patients across Warwickshire North and beyond since the serviceโs inception. The team has consistently maintained exceptionally high standards of personalised, compassionate and holistic care. Feedback from patients has repeatedly highlighted the timely, supportive treatment they received, which helped them manage their condition and improve their quality of life. We cannot thank and praise the Lymphoedema team highly enough.
We remain committed to working with NHS partners to advocate for the re establishment of a locally based Lymphoedema service in the future.
Mary Ann continues to provide community hospice care and support through its Hospice at Home, Rapid Response, Wellbeing and Bereavement services.
If you are affected by lymphoedema and live in Nuneaton, Bedworth or North Warwickshire please contact your GP or care provider for support.
