🚫 Zero Tolerance for Abuse Towards Our Staff

We need to address an issue that has become increasingly concerning within the practice.

In recent weeks, several members of our team have been subjected to shouting, verbal abuse, and aggressive behaviour. This includes our reception team, clinicians, and support staff. This behaviour is not acceptable under any circumstances.

💙 Our Staff Are Not Responsible for NHS Rules
It is important for patients to understand that our staff do not create the rules we work under.
They are required to follow:
- NHS contractual requirements
- National guidance
- Clinical safety protocols
- Governance and legal frameworks

These rules are set nationally, not by individual practices. Our team simply implements them to keep patients safe and ensure the practice remains compliant.

🧭 Reception: A Skilled, Trained Part of Your Care
Our reception team have all completed triage and care navigation training. They are trained to:
- Understand the urgency of your request
- Direct you to the most appropriate clinician or service
- Follow structured pathways designed to protect patient safety

They are not making personal decisions — they are following NHS‑approved processes.
Every member of our team works extremely hard to keep the service running for our patients.

🤝 Let’s Keep Our Practice Safe
We understand that accessing healthcare can be frustrating, especially when demand is high. We are working hard behind the scenes to improve access and increase appointment availability.

All we ask is that patients treat our staff with the respect and kindness they deserve.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, supportive environment for everyone.

📢 Practice Update: Supporting Access & Reducing Missed Appointments

Over the last two months we’ve seen a significant rise in missed appointments (DNAs):
- 122 DNAs in the last month
- 76 the month before

Every missed appointment is a slot that another patient could have used, and this has a real impact on access for our community.

📈 Increasing Appointment Capacity
From February to March, we increased the number of available appointments by 22%, and we are continuing to expand capacity further with additional clinical hours.

Our clinical team includes:
- GPs
- Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs)
- First Contact Physiotherapist
- Midwife
- Healthcare Assistants
- Practice Nurses
- Clinical Pharmacists
…and more roles working together to support patient care.

We also have a new practice nurse undertaking further training to increase access to additional clinical services such as smears, baby immunisations, and other essential care.

🧭 Reception Team: Trained to Support Your Care
All members of our reception team have completed triage and care navigation training. This enables them to direct you to the most appropriate clinician or service, ensuring you receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

🏥 Working Within NHS Contractual Requirements**
We are adapting to ongoing NHS contractual and governance changes, which set out what practices must deliver and how services must be structured. This work happens behind the scenes every day to keep the practice safe, compliant, and responsive.

💬 We Hear Your Concerns
We understand that some patients are feeling let down by access at the moment. Please know that we are working hard to improve this, and we appreciate your patience while we continue to strengthen our systems.

👥 Serving a Community of 8,800 Patients
With a population of around 8,800 patients, we aim to offer a range of ways to contact us:

- 📞 Phone appointments
- 📅 Pre‑bookable appointments
- 📆 Ring‑on‑the‑day appointments
- 💬 Accurx messaging service
- 📧 Email contact
- 🚶 Pop in to speak to our reception team

We also have extended access on Saturdays for telephone calls

🙏 How You Can Help
If you can’t attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the slot to someone else who needs it.

Together, we can improve access and ensure everyone gets the care they need.

Meningitis B

Understandably, the practice is currently receiving a high number of queries relating to recent cases of Meningitis in Kent. This outbreak has been identified as Meningitis B.

Please read the important information below:

🟣Anyone born prior to September 2015 will NOT have been vaccinated against Meningitis B.

🟣The NHS do NOT currently offer Men B vaccination past the age of 2 years.

🟣We have NOT been contacted by the UKHSA as they believe it is contained to the local area.

Meningitis B vaccination can be obtained privately. While the NHS provides the vaccine for infants as part of their routine schedule it is not routinely available on the NHS for older children, teenagers, or adults.

We have not received any advice about providing Men B for those not immunised, but will keep patients informed should advice from NHSE change.

For further information about Men B and the symptoms to look out for, please visit:

🌟 Pharmacy First – Helping You Get Faster Care 🌟

From now on, some minor illnesses can be treated directly by your local community pharmacy. This means you can get expert advice and treatment without needing to see a GP.

Our reception team may signpost you to a pharmacy if your symptoms meet the national criteria. This isn’t us “fobbing you off” — it’s about getting you the right care, more quickly, from trained clinicians who can assess and provide treatment on the same day.

Thank you for helping us keep appointments available for those who need them most. 💙
