We’re delighted to celebrate Jez Jones, Registered Nursing Matron for Paediatrics, who has received an IEXCEL Award following an outstanding nomination from a parent.

The nomination highlights Jez’s consistent compassion, professionalism and warmth within the Children’s Assessment Unit. His calm, reassuring manner helps put both children and parents at ease during what can be extremely stressful visits. Through simple but meaningful gestures a smile, a well-timed “dad joke”, or offering stickers Jez creates an environment of comfort, trust and safety for families at their most vulnerable.

What stands out strongly is the wider impact of his work. Other parents shared the same feelings during long waits, describing Jez as someone with a “heart of gold” and a true asset to the department. His pride in his role and dedication to delivering high-quality, compassionate care shines through in every interaction.

Jez is a shining example of what compassionate paediatric care looks like, and this recognition is richly deserved.

Do you know a colleague at George Eliot who makes a real difference to patients and families every day? You can nominate them for an IEXCEL Award and help us recognise excellence across our Trust.

We’re launching the No Excuse for Abuse campaign because all of our staff have the right to feel safe, respected and supported at work.

Discriminatory, abusive, violent or sexually inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable under any circumstances and will be reported to the police.

When discrimination takes place in our hospital it does not just affect one person, it affects team morale, trust and wellbeing. Action will be taken against anyone who commits these acts against our staff.

We’re here to help, not to be hurt.

We’re asking our patients, visitors and local community to stand together with us and say ‘No Excuse for Abuse’.
