A fabulous weekend at the aYs convention at Eastwood Hall in Nottinghamshire. So good to spend time with a wonderful community of yoga friends. Four fabulous plenaries from Gary Kraftsow - most enlightening. Lots of amazing workshops to choose from and a lovely morning practice each day. Wonderful to car share with my dear friend Dipika (DJ Yoga) too. Feeling very nourished. It’s great that technology has opened up so much, but you can’t beat being in the room with people.
A very special weekend. Lots to digest.

On our retreat day yesterday, I read some words from Donna Ashworth. She encapsulates beautifully what this time of year is about.

Today the sun crosses the celestial equator into the southern hemisphere – the Autumn Equinox.

I encourage you to spend a few conscious moments at sunrise and/or sunset each day this autumn. Here is a link to the timings if you live in my neck of the woods: https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/@2636512

And so arrives the Autumn Equinox.

Watch as Mother Nature teaches us how minimal living is done, how letting go renews.
Watch, learn and follow her lead.

For me, I shed the ‘too much’ elements of life as the winter approaches and I embrace the little things. Going with the flow of this planet we exist on is fundamental to our survival and our wellbeing.

Yield don’t brace. Bend don’t resist.

Don’t fear the dark nights, you have light of your own. 🍁

📗: joy Chose You… one week to go.

Thank you to everyone who shared details about the spaces available on this Sunday’s day retreat. A few people have already been in touch and booked, which I’m delighted about. It’s such a lovely reminder of how connected we all are—someone always knows someone who might need this.

There are still two spaces left that I’d love to fill. Our lunch menu is now finalised—perhaps that might tempt you? Lucy's Ladle will be catering, so I know it will all be delicious (and entirely plant-based!).

I’m also able to offer some last-minute pricing, as I’m especially keen to make these spaces available to those who could really benefit from a retreat day but might otherwise find the cost a barrier in the current climate.

LAST CALL - if you know anyone who can make use of these spaces!

Last few spaces for our Autumn Equinox Day Retreat at The Lloyd Hall in Outwood - a beautiful venue surrounded by woodland. A delicious plant based lunch will be provided by Lucy's Ladle. Plenty of time to move and breathe and relax. Do please share with anyone who you know who could benefit from this day retreat on Sunday 21st September.

Beautifully put by Jatinder. I dilly dallied around and by the time I got round to booking this weekend it was full up. I managed to join for the whole day on Saturday though. It was a treat and I echo Jatinder’s comments. Jatinder runs chanting groups locally. Perhaps you might be interested in joining her?

Feeling very grateful for the chance to lead a retreat at The Yoga Garden on the summer solstice yesterday.

The summer solstice—longest day, shortest night, the sun at its peak—is a time of energy, fullness, and potential. Nature is in full bloom, and we’re reminded of the sheer radiance and abundance that this season brings.

Change is the only constant, and nowhere is that more apparent than at Knepp. When I first started coming here, it was a bare field, surrounded by more bare fields. Fast forward to 2025 and it’s now a thriving rewilding project. If you haven’t read Wilding by Isabella Tree or seen the film, it’s well worth exploring. Nature is SO amazing.

Speaking of change—we’ve had all kinds of weather for our day retreats at The Yoga Garden: wind, rain, chilly days… but never scorching heat. I checked the forecast a week before, and each day it crept higher. I shelved my file of energising sun-honouring practices and went back to the drawing board—creating a gentle, cooling sequence, mostly floor-based, requiring minimal exertion.

We began our day outside the yurt, forming a circle and passing around a palm-sized pebble. Everyone was invited to hold the pebble and offer the pebble their worries, thoughts, or burdens. It was left by the door. I could see postures soften and bodies feel lighter from this simple act. In yoga, we often focus on effort, on doing—but learning to let go can be even more transformative. As I always say, yoga is a practice. It’s never finished. Always evolving.

This time of year is about expansion. We see it everywhere in nature. In our practice, we honoured that by gently working through the body rooting and creating space for expansion.

My dear friend Veronica Moulder came to the rescue when I needed some inspiration. I remembered her teaching a sunflower-themed practice years ago on a retreat in France and messaged her at a last minute ridiculous hour. True to form, she sent it straight over—despite juggling a million things in her own life. Yoga teachers will understand: we can never just teach someone else’s class plan. It always has to come through our own hearts. What we practiced on the day was quite different to what Veronica had in her plan, but it was the spark I needed to pull something together in the heat of the moment.

The practice drew from this beautiful quote by Helen Mirren in Calendar Girls:

"I don't think there's anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky like a satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever the light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. Such a lesson in life."

The group was experienced—half yoga teachers, the rest long-time practitioners. I didn’t offer many modifications, but I loved witnessing how everyone tuned into their own needs—resting when needed, adapting poses or practicing from a chair when that felt right. Everyone was truly listening to their own bodies—that’s what yoga is all about.

After lunch, we gathered for a rich discussion about the sun—its role in ancient civilisations, how electricity and tech have reshaped our lives into a 24/7 culture, the impact of light on circadian rhythms and shift work. We also spoke about the sun’s deep symbolism in yoga. Oh and who doesn’t like a mindful cocktail at sunset, we couldn't do that without the sun!

There was a long nourishing relaxation, weaving in the themes of rooting, expansion, and holding space for the unique seeds in our hearts. Then, an uplifting final practice to prepare for departure—with the option to reclaim whatever we had handed to the pebble at the start of they day.

I always plan to take loads of photos on these days… but when you’re immersed in the moment, the camera is the last thing on your mind. So here’s the one picture I managed, taken just before everyone arrived.

✨ I’ll be back at The Yoga Garden on Sunday 3rd August, and I have two spaces left. Fancy joining?

I loved this exhibition at the British Museum. It opens with a section on 'Nature Spirits of the Indian Subcontinent', then moves through a display of devotional art from Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism—offering both historical and geographical context. Each section of the exhibition brings us right up to the present day, featuring 90-second videos of: a volunteer at the Jain temple in Potters Bar, a visitor to the Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon, and a man performing a Lakshmi puja in his home here in the UK.
It made me reflect—as I often do—on how I, a white woman from Yorkshire, found my way to becoming a student and teacher of yoga. I frequently sit with questions around cultural appropriation, authenticity, and the responsibility that comes with teaching yoga. This exhibition brought those questions right to the surface. And yet, despite all the questioning, there’s something in my heart that feels deeply connected to this path.

Discover the origins of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist sacred art in the nature spirits of ancient India – and how it lives on 2,000 years later.

Just back from an unforgettable yoga and hiking retreat in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco 🏔️🧘‍♀️

I love yoga.
I love hiking.
I love mountains.
High altitude? …not quite so much 😵‍💫

Despite a touch of altitude sickness, I had an incredible time thanks to the wonderful Lisa Soede of Balanced Yoga (https://www.balancedyoga.co.uk). We had two nourishing yoga classes a day, breathtaking hikes, great company, and delicious home-cooked Moroccan food at the beautiful Kasbah du Toubkal (https://www.kasbahdutoubkal.com).

I feel like I’ve been to another world.

There’s nothing like majestic mountains to bring perspective, nothing like a yoga practice to reconnect with yourself, and nothing like a good hike to clear the head.

A real treat. 🌿✨

A beautiful four days at Park Place Pastoral Centre with Lisa Soede and Sarah Waterfield, studying and chanting the Brahmānandavallī—the second chapter of the Taittirīya Upaniṣad.
Lisa and Sarah held a wonderfully supportive learning space. There was so much to reflect on, rich discussion, and probably the most chanting I’ve ever done in one sitting.
But ultimately, these teachings aren’t about academic learning - they point to something beyond words. They’re a reminder of why I practice yoga, and the possibility that our practices offer.
