Hatherleigh Nursing Home

Hatherleigh Nursing Home Hatherleigh’s approach to life recognises the values, beliefs and identity of each person.

The home is within touching distance of the coastal town of Bude and Dartmoor National Park. Our home is just minutes from the busy town of Okehampton, giving the perfect mix of being close to the town amenities whilst still being able to enjoy the tranquil countryside. The magnificent two-acre site offers 53 en-suite bedrooms for individuals who require residential, nursing and dementia support, along with 16 stunning independent living apartments. Each person that may need our support is unique and by understanding one’s life history, one’s journey in life, by striving to be a true continuation of home, we create a place where everyone feels safe and never alone.

Today we celebrate our Administrator Tamsin’s 9-year anniversary with us! Almost a decade ago, Tamsin began as a care assistant and has since built an incredible career for herself over the years.

Her story reflects her journey with us – and just how much she means to Hatherleigh.

Comfort has a quiet power. A hug, a held hand, or even the softness of a teddy can ease worries and bring closeness. Feeling truly comfortable helps us feel safe, and in that safety, wellbeing gently grows.

Afternoons spent with simple, meaningful activities that keep our hands busy while supporting cognitive skills. For many, these moments bring a quiet sense of calm, helping us unwind and relax. Just sitting together around a table, sharing conversation while working on a puzzle or a game of dominoes, can feel comforting and grounding.

These small, shared experiences encourage social connection, focus, and creativity. 🧩

Care That Goes Beyond a Task ❣️

Making a difference as a carer means offering more than personal care, it’s about being a meaningful presence in someone’s daily life, bringing comfort, companionship and a sense of dignity. It’s offering a reassuring smile, a listening ear and a helping hand when it’s needed most. As a Care Assistant, you’ll support individuals with daily tasks, encourage independence, and build meaningful connections that genuinely impact well-being. Your kindness can turn everyday moments into something special, helping people feel valued, seen and supported.

Personal care is an essential part of being a Care Assistant, ensuring that those you support can maintain their dignity at all times. This includes helping with things like washing, dressing, bathroom visits and always respecting personal choices and preferences. For example, you might support someone in getting ready for the day by helping them dress and ensuring they feel comfortable and confident in the outfit they have chosen to wear.

While these responsibilities may feel personal, they are crucial in providing compassionate and respectful care. You empower individuals to live as independently as possible and even if, sometimes, they may not be able to fully express it, they can feel the comfort, confidence and sense of self that comes from being supported to make their own choices, like choosing what to wear.

It takes more than a storm to dampen spirits at Hatherleigh! ☂️🌭

Despite the unpredictable Devon weather, our annual family BBQ still went ahead in full force.

We were thrilled to have Cold N Rolled back again with their delicious ice creams, and a big thank you to Chef Faye, for putting together a fantastic indoor BBQ feast for all of our relatives, family members, guests and team.
