🥗⚡ The New US Food Pyramid — Finally Catching Up to Physiology ⚡🥗

REAL FOOD is back at the center of health in the US & highly processed foods are called out.

The UK diet is certainly better but processed foods are still consumed in large quantities!

As an acupuncturist and holistic healthcare provider — this update to the food pyramid in the US is interesting to see & perhaps will give us a little shake up too in regard to healthier eating.

Processed diets have been the scourge of modern living, which I’ve witnessed for years, working in the NHS & now in my own clinic.
As an energy worker that incorporates electro acupuncture into many of my treatments, I know what a typical processed diet leads to:

👉 poor Gu-Qi (foods)
👉 unstable blood sugar
👉 chronic inflammation
👉 endocrine and metabolic stress
👉 low voltage terrain

What we eat directly affects cellular voltage, mitochondrial function, digestion, and the nervous system. When nutrition is built on refined grains and processed foods, the terrain simply cannot hold charge ⚡️

“What’s encouraging about the new US food pyramid is that it finally starts to resemble what many acupuncturists see clinically works:” (Steiner-EAI)

• prioritizing protein and healthy fats for voltage and metabolic stability
• emphasizing vegetables and whole foods for minerals and electron donation
• reducing reliance on ultra-processed foods that drain terrain
• supporting better Earth system (St/SI/SP) function and Gu-Qi production

From an Electro - Acu perspective, this shift supports:
⚡ higher baseline voltage
⚡ more nutrition = healthy cell regeneration
⚡ improved endocrine signaling
⚡ reduced inflammation and immune reactivity

Is their new guide perfect? No.
But it’s a great start & refreshing to see public nutrition guidance finally moving closer to physiology instead of ideology.

I also feel their new guide is aligned more with the Paleo diet (a way of eating I advocate).

The Paleo diet and lifestyle takes cues & inspiration from our ancestors and the way we used to eat and live.
It’s not about re-enacting the caveman era; nobody runs around in loincloths and sets fires to cook their food (only occasionally).
Paleo is about learning from ancestors but it’s mostly fuelled by modern science and some common sense.

This diet focuses on unprocessed whole foods: healthy fats including saturated fat, grass-fed, free-range meat and eggs, lots of fish and seafood, even more vegetables, some fruit, berries, nuts, seeds and natural sweeteners.
It excludes grains, legumes, processed sugar and most dairy.
Some people include healthy dairy foods like kefir, full-fat natural yoghurt, aged cheese and butter. That, of course, really depends on your sensitivities.

I love this way of eating because it also focuses on local, organic produce and good farming practices, a win win all round 🙏

A little insight on one of my go to points for chronic back pain 👌

BL40 (Weizhong)

BL40 is the fifth Five-Element point located on the Urinary Bladder energy channel.

“He points treat Fu organ diseases” is a fundamental principle in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

According to this principle, He-Sea points help in treating disorders of the Fu organs such as:

Stomach

Small Intestine

Large Intestine

Urinary Bladder

Gall Bladder

San Jiao (Triple Warmer)

When diseases do not heal for a long time, He-Sea points are especially useful.

ST36, LI11, SP9, BL40, GB34 and SJ10 are He-Sea points.

These points should not be omitted in chronic disease conditions.

Today, we look at BL40

Crook Regions – TCM View
In the human body, the bending areas of the elbow and the knee are called crook regions.
According to TCM classics, it is at these regions that Qi (energy) and Blood change their direction, flowing from top to bottom and from bottom to top.

BL40 is located at the center of the popliteal crease, at the back of the knee, between two tendons.
Because of this location, the Chinese named this point “Middle of the Crook.”
Since this point is situated at the center of the knee bend and acts as a key point where Qi and Blood change direction, BL40 is called “Middle of the Crook.”

This point clears heat from the blood and helps to release excess heat from the body.

Command Point

When problems such as pain, tightness, heat, and stagnation occur in the body, the points that give the earliest and most effective relief are called Command Points.

Command Points are central points that regulate the movement of Qi and Blood in a specific region of the body.

Urinary Bladder Energy Channel
The Urinary Bladder channel starts from the eyes and runs through the head, neck, the entire spine, lower back, and down to the legs.

This channel contains the maximum number of acupuncture points, a total of 67.

BL40 is a Command Point of the Urinary Bladder channel.

“Command points treat the cause, not just the complaint.”

Command Points do not treat only the site of pain.

They correct the root imbalance of Qi and Blood that causes the problem.

Therefore, points such as BL40, LI11, and ST36 are not used only for symptoms, but to correct the root mechanism of disease, according to TCM.

This is why Command Points are useful in acute cases, chronic cases, and recurrent cases.

BL40 clears Dampness, Cold, and Heat that block the Urinary Bladder channel.

At the same time, it removes stagnation of Qi and Blood within the channel and restores smooth flow.

Because BL40 works at the root level of regulation, it is highly effective in:

Acute low back pain

Chronic stiffness

Sudden muscle spasm (lumbago)

Recurrent back pain

From a TCM perspective, back pain is not pain limited to a single spot in the back.

It is understood as a manifestation of tightness and impaired energy flow in the Urinary Bladder channel.

When blockage or stagnation occurs in the channel, Qi and Blood cannot move smoothly.

As a result, muscle fibers are pulled, leading to sudden muscle spasm.

Since BL40 is the Command Point of the Urinary Bladder channel, it addresses this blockage at the root level.

This point regulates the flow of Qi and Blood and opens the energy pathway.

Once the pathway opens, muscle tightness gradually releases.

As a result, back pain that previously prevented forward bending improves.

Pain experienced while sitting down or standing up is significantly reduced.
Morning stiffness also reduces quickly.

These combinations may make a significant difference in:

Low back pain

Healing Through Voltage and Frequencies -

Understanding the human body as an intricate network of electrical circuits provides a revolutionary perspective on health and wellness.

It’s here that Electro Acupuncture shines.

By precisely tuning into the body’s unique voltage and frequency needs, it facilitates optimal energy flow, fostering an environment conducive to healing & the fascia is vital for this to happen.

The power of Electro Acupuncture isn’t just in its technology but in its ability to offer a modernized approach while honoring the deep wisdom of traditional practices ☯️

I wanted to share this recent article & the great tips to help manage back pain, including acupuncture of course 🤩👏

I’ve had mild niggling backache/sciatica since around 51 - TCM diagnosis - Kidney Yin & Bl Xu, Spleen Qi Xu …. ☯️

I pretty much incorporate all the recommendations suggested in this article & more!
& As a result I continue to enjoy some of my favourite activities 🚴‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🧘 💃🏻

I’m really pleased that conscientious GP’s are suggesting other ways to help patients manage pain other than meds 👏

Chronic pain is estimated to affect nearly half of all UK adults-a staggering 28million people.

Winds, Spirits, and Seasonal Shifts:
Happy Halloween! 🎃

As Halloween approaches and the days shorten, we enter the heart of the Metal season — a time when nature turns inward, the air becomes crisp, and the veil between worlds grows thin. 🍁

In Chinese medicine, autumn governs the Lungs and Large Intestine, the organs responsible for both receiving and releasing, for taking in what is pure and letting go of what no longer serves. 🧘

The emotion of the Metal element is grief, yet it also holds the seed of courage — the courage to release, to face endings, and to prepare for renewal. 🌱

This season invites us to reflect on how grief, fear, and transformation manifest and how we can support ourselves — in finding balance as we move from the light of yang into the depth of yin ☯️

Celebrating 5 years since I started my acupuncture practice, becoming my own boss 🥳

Prior to my acupuncture degree, I worked in a rural GP practice for 14 years dispensing medication & learnt so much!

From an unconventional upbringing, indoctrinated with strong holistic beliefs, I immersed any spare time (aside from raising a family) into learning & study, gathering various certificates & diplomas, to include nutrition, counselling, psychology & reflexology.

However, there came a point where I’d reached a crossroads in my life & so I decided to follow my joy - into the world of holistic health & wellbeing 🫶

Chinese medicine captured my interest, in particular acupuncture! ☯️
So I quit my job, went to uni to train as an acupuncturist & haven’t looked back since 💃🏻

I feel super blessed with everything that has occurred since 2020, that my business has gone from strength to strength ☺️
Big thank you to every single one of you who have supported me, referred to me & left me wonderful reviews!! 👏
I’m truly grateful 🙏❤️
