It is really exciting to see the Welsh Government continuing this service. I am pleased to say that I will be continuing to provide rehab services for RCS. This time supported by Sandra Franks, who some of you may have seen in the clinic in Old Colwyn.

Some of you may know that my main sport is orienteering. I travel around the UK running through forests, open moorland or even city centres. Over the winter, there are events at night in all the types of terrain used in daylight.
Last weekend was the British Championships in night orienteering. Many people as mad as me ran around Moors Valley Country Park. I loved every moment of this crazy sport, and was rewarded with finishing second in the over 45 class.
My medal is now proudly displayed in clinic to brighten up the place a little, and put a smile on my face. I do try to smile all the time anyway!

When I treat patients I like to ensure they know exactly what is going on when it comes to their injury.

I do this by:
1. Creating a visual timeline of injury history so you have clarity on how previous injuries may have contributed to your symptoms.
2. Drawing a stick man diagram highlighting what is doing a good job and what is not doing a good job that may be contributing to your symptoms.
3. Mapping out rehab plan and milestones that you need to achieve so you will be aware of how many sessions it is likely to take to get you back into the things you love to do.

If you have ever had an appointment with me you will have seen my stick figure drawings, and may even have them pinned to your fridge!

A big culprit for losing our physical abilities as we age is the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, known as sarcopenia. However it is possible for many older adults to increase muscle strength with exercise, and maintain independence and good health into old age.

Are you running London Marathon for a charity this year?
No doubt the worries are setting in – will you raise enough, will you get through the training to reach the start line?
My marathon training package can help ease your fears, and make your marathon preparation an enjoyable experience.
The package includes:
• an initial health and movement screen assessment to identify any movement restrictions or imbalances
• 8 x 30 minute treatment sessions to be used throughout your training plan to address any niggles and improve your movement efficiency
Knowing you have these appointments to use throughout your training can give you peace of mind. The 8 treatment sessions can be used to diagnose a pain, have a massage or support you through the unexpected challenges life throws at you.

The ‘what ifs’ are those questions we should ask ourselves when planning for something.
The best laid plans aren’t fool-proof. The last few years have thrown up some unexpected challenges globally – the pandemic being the most notable.
Having a strategy to deal with the unexpected can turn that mountain back into a mole hill.
If you are training for an event having the answers to these ‘what if’ questions make the chances of reaching your goal more likely.
For example, if you are training for an endurance event such as a marathon, the ‘what ifs’ may include:
• what if I get injured?
• what if I miss a long run scheduled in this week?
• what if I start to lose my motivation?

You’ve got a place in your first marathon this year.
Are you excited, or are you scared? It’s a big commitment, but if you approach it with a plan it can be a really rewarding experience.
Your plan should include:
• a running schedule to gradually build up your weekly distance, as well as the length of your longest run
• fueling strategies through the training, and on the day
• recovery activities for immediately after running
• managing set-backs when things don’t go as expected
• how the rest of your life fits in to all this
• looking after your body – sleeping, eating, massage

Marathon training season has begun.
Congratulations to those of you starting out on your marathon training journey. It doesn’t matter if you won your place in a ballot, or have committed to raise money for a charity, the end goal is the same.

Like many of you I began my training for my first marathon in January, but that was over 10 years ago. You can read my story here:

A marathon training plan is more than a timetable of runs. It should include what you do between running sessions to help your body recover.

How can sports rehab help you?

Sports rehab is for everybody, whatever your activity level. I treat a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries… but I don't stop there.

Sometimes the body has muscular adaptations because of things like surgery, illness, and diseases.
Basically your body works in a certain way to prevent itself from experiencing pain.
But no matter how helpless you may feel, I can improve your quality of life regardless of your diagnosis.

All I want to know is, what do you want to be able to do and what is this pain restricting you from being able to do?
I will then do the hard work and identify those areas of your body that are avoiding work to get you back doing the things that are important to you.

Don’t wait for the pain to ease off, in hope rest will see an end to your pain. Often this will delay you getting back to doing what you love.

Book now for a consultation and the start of your plan to end your pain.
Here is how to apply
Step 1 - Follow this link https://www.docsarahb.co.uk/
Step 2 - Click the appointment button.
Step 3 - Book the time that suits you and let me get you back to the activities you need and want to do.

SB Sports and Pain Clinics goal is to identify and treat the cause of the injury, rehab you correctly to prevent further occurrence.
