🖋️ Journalling 🖋️ I have always found it useful to journal my thoughts & feelings & have done so from a very young age. In the 80’s, we’d call that keeping a diary. I had a diary from the ages of 7 to 17, notepads & diaries where I found it easier to write about how I was feeling rather than speaking it (I was a shy kid).

Fast forward to the present & I enjoy journalling as part of my morning routine. I find it therapeutic to empty my thoughts & to see them written down on paper. I have notepads that I do this in but I feel not having an official journal would mean I would sometimes lapse & fall out of the habit.

Recently I purchased this beautiful journal that .wellness has created. I love it because not only does it have that luxurious feeling due to the quality of it but it feels like a nice place to write in. It has over 200 pages which means you can use it for around 4 months & has a bunch of useful things in there such as mindfulness practices, goal setting & of course plenty of space to journal. 📝 You can get a copy of your own by hopping over to her page & following her links.

I highly recommend journalling ~ it’s absolutely for everyone & every time I do it, I feel lighter & have a clearer focus. 🙏🏻

Preparing for a Reiki session, both before & after, can enhance the experience & ensure you gain the most benefit from the practice. Here are some steps you can follow:

✨Before a Reiki Session

🪄Set an Intention ~ Reflect on what you hope to achieve from the session. Setting a clear intention can help focus the energy.

🪄Hydrate ~ Drink plenty of water before the session. Being well-hydrated helps the flow of energy.

🪄Wear Comfortable Clothing ~ Choose loose, comfortable clothing to help you relax and remain comfortable throughout the session.

🪄Limit Stimulants ~ Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals at least a few hours

After a Reiki session, it’s important to take care of yourself to maximise the benefits. Here are some recommendations:

🪄 Hydrate ~ Drink plenty of water to help flush out any toxins released during the session.

🪄Rest ~ Allow your body to rest & integrate the energy healing. Avoid strenuous activities if possible.

🪄Reflect ~ Spend some time in quiet reflection or journaling about any thoughts, emotions, or sensations that came up during the session.

🪄Ground Yourself ~ Engage in grounding activities like walking barefoot on the earth, meditating, or practicing deep breathing.

🪄Stay Mindful ~ Be aware of any changes in your physical, emotional, or mental state over the next few days.

Let’s talk about ✨trauma responses✨

Everyone responds to trauma in a different way & different types of trauma can have different responses in different people.

The 6 main types of trauma responses are: fight, flight, freeze, fawn, fine & faint. Let’s look at these individual types.

✨Fight✨
One of the easiest to understand - a threat or traumatic event becomes immediate and almost out of instinct, a fight ensues. A fight can be an argument or even a simple conversation - the only true marker of a fight is a series of attacks and defences.

✨Flight✨
The flight response’ obvious example is running away but there is also emotional flight. Emotional flight can manifest as many different behaviours, including the silent treatment, failing to acknowledge the problem or refusing to talk about what’s bothering you.

✨Freeze✨
The freeze response happens when your brain is so overwhelmed by stimulus that you experience paralysis. This may happen if the trauma you have just experienced was so sudden and so severe that the next course of action is not immediately obvious.

There is a part of your primitive brain called the amygdala which is where the flight / flight / freeze responses come from.

✨Fawn✨
The fawn response is a psychological reaction to trauma wherein the victim attempts to appease the traumatic stimuli in order to get it to stop.

✨Fine✨
The fine response refers to self-denial of trauma. It occurs when someone does not want to believe they are traumatised and that they can handle whatever threat or action has just befallen them.

✨Faint✨
The faint response is exactly how it’s described - you literally faint as a response to trauma.

🪄 By alleviating symptoms of PTSD

Lately I have noticed that when people don’t connect to a higher source other than themselves, they seem to become lost & stuck, unsure what their next steps are, trying to control every single aspect of their lives and becoming miserable and frustrated in the process.
A higher source looks different for everyone. Here are some examples of a higher source:

🪄 God/s
🪄 Goddess/es
🪄 Spirit
🪄 Your Spirit Guides
🪄 The Universe
🪄 Nature
🪄 Your Higher Self
🪄 Higher Power (referred to in 12-step recovery programmes)

Technically all these examples are one - seeing as we are all one & all connected - but you may feel drawn to a particular higher power that you already work with or wish to.

When we release control & surrender to the flow of love, life becomes a lot easier. Connecting to a higher source through meditation, reiki, walking in nature, praying, reading, thinking & just being can help us feel more connected & present with who we are. It can bring a sense of purpose and meaning, guidance & wisdom, hope & optimism. It can offer emotional support & comfort, a sense of community & belonging, improve health & wellbeing, personal growth, self awareness & spiritual fulfilment as well as having a stronger moral compass.
