Follow Ayaan on his brace fitting journey.
1. Pre-fitting review
• The orthodontist reviews your treatment plan, X-rays, scans, and photos.
• They explain: The type of braces being used (metal, ceramic, or self-ligating)
• How long treatment is expected to last
• What to expect after fitting
2. Teeth cleaning and preparation
• Teeth are polished to remove plaque and debris.
• A cheek retractor is placed to keep lips and cheeks away.
• Teeth are thoroughly dried to ensure strong bonding.
3. Tooth conditioning
• A special gel is applied briefly to the teeth to prepare the enamel.
• This helps the brackets adhere securely.
• The gel is rinsed off and teeth are dried again.
4. Bracket placement
• A small amount of adhesive is applied to each bracket.
• Brackets are carefully positioned on each tooth.
• A curing light is used to harden the adhesive.
5. Archwire insertion
• A thin, flexible wire is placed through the brackets.
• The wire is secured with:
• Elastic ties (colored or clear), or
• Built-in clips (for self-ligating braces)
• This wire begins the process of gently moving the teeth.
6. Bite checks and adjustments
• The orthodontist checks your bite to ensure brackets won’t clash.
• Bite blocks may be added to protect brackets if needed.
• Final comfort and alignment checks are done.
7. Instructions and education
You’ll be taught:
• How to brush and floss with braces
• Foods to avoid (hard, sticky, chewy)
• How to manage soreness (soft foods, pain relief)
• What’s normal vs. what to call about (loose brackets, poking wires)
We have starter kits available with wax, a toothbrush, and instructions.
