𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿

We are deeply saddened and angered by the recent case reported in the media.
The actions described are completely unacceptable and fall far below the standards that families have the right to expect when placing their loved one into our care.

Four years is simply not long enough for the severity of what has occurred. Cases like this damage public trust and, most painfully, cause additional distress to grieving families. They also cast a shadow over the many dedicated, compassionate, and highly professional funeral directors who work tirelessly every day and night to provide the highest level of care.

As it currently stands, 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆. Quite frankly, this is deeply worrying and highlights exactly why meaningful regulation is so important.

For a long time, we have said that 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 within the funeral profession. We welcome its introduction and hope to see meaningful progress in the near future to protect families and uphold standards across the industry.

Here at 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗣 𝗛𝗲𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗧. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘀 & 𝗦𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱 & 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘆, we are committed to the very highest levels of dignity, transparency, and care. We are not complacent—we continually review and improve our procedures to ensure the families we serve receive nothing less than excellence.

It was not long ago that our facilities were inspected by 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, where we successfully met all required standards. We are also proud members of both 𝗡𝗔𝗙𝗗 and 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗙, who have carried out their own inspections and provided exceptional feedback on our practices and care of the deceased.

💰𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑯𝒊𝒌𝒆💰

Oldham families are once again being asked to pay the price for the council’s mounting debt.

With a reported £𝟮𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹, almost 900 charges are set to rise – including cremation costs, cemetery and burial fees, with grave costs increasing and new surcharges being introduced.

We fully understand that there are 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘆, 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁, but continual year-on-year increases to essential end-of-life costs are unjust and unfair on grieving families. Common sense needs applying and a meeting with local funeral directors to discuss pricing would make sense.

This is deeply concerning. Death is not a choice, and grieving families should not be used to plug financial gaps. Oldham is 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹-𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 (and potentially more expensive than most privately owned) cemetery/crematorium in Greater Manchester, and these increases will place even more pressure on people at the most difficult time in their lives.

Rising costs will inevitably push families towards misleading online and television adverts that appear cheaper on the surface but do not provide the same level of care, support, and local accountability. Continued year-on-year increases also threaten the future of independent family funeral directors, like ourselves, who have served the communities of Oldham for over 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

We are frankly disgusted that essential end-of-life services are being treated as a revenue stream rather than a public duty delivered with dignity and fairness.

Families deserve compassion, transparency, and affordability not increasing costs when they are at their most vulnerable. As always, we will continue to stand by our community and guide families with honesty and care.

𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗢𝗹𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹. It will be extremely interesting to see the overall increases when the new pricing is released in March. Whilst unlikely, we would welcome the opportunity to sit down with Oldham Council to discuss these changes and see whether any common ground can be reached for the benefit of the families of Oldham.
