We like to create a relaxed and fun space for birthers and birth partners to come along to. You might be carrying a head full of fear surrounding the idea of birth, but that doesn't mean your birth preparation or antenatal class has to be an intimidating lecture.

How painful are contractions? What does the cervix dilating feel like? Are there any natural remedies for pain in birth? How can I cope when I'm scared of pain during labour?

We've got the answers... and some of them maybe aren't the ones you were hoping for. We can't promise you a pain-free birth (although for some birthers that does actually exist). What we can promise you is that you will be informed and forearmed with a huge toolbox of techniques to help you cope on the day you meet your baby.

Some are medicated and some unmedicated forms of pain-relief- we teach that nothing should be off the cards. It's about allowing for a continuum of coping mechanisms, so whatever you feel on the day- you have options.

If your baby is born in August their birth flower is the Gladiolus.

This month at The Birth Project, we will be helping birthers and their birth partners to feel:
*secure in their understanding of the stages of labour and how the body works during birth, especially the uterus during contractions
*prepared in terms of logistics- planning the route to hospital, familiarising yourself with the birth setting (home, labour ward, birth suite, caesarean theatre)
*reassured by all the methods of non-medicated and medicated pain relief available (and the pros and cons of each)
*confident in the practise of all the hypnobirthing techniques that can keep you both of fight or flight mode- so that you can stay calm when meeting your baby.

If this sounds like the antenatal course you want to take, look at our in-person dates or attend our FREE taster for more of an insight into what we offer (dates shown). Our courses are FULL Birth Prep with Hypnobirthing built in.

If you don't want to attend a group and want something tailored to your pregnancy- just message us and we can chat!

This gorgeous couple wanted a homebirth before a gestational diabetes diagnosis threw that into question. We explored the common belief that
'I'm not allowed to [insert your preference here]' and how it shows that there is often a power imbalance- we believe we are the passive patient and the medical professional is in charge.

We worked hard to explore all of their options and build realistic expectations around the birthing process. We did evidence-based research. We learnt that their care shouldn't be dictated to them and that advocating for yourself can look as simple as asking 'why?' or 'are there any alternatives?'

They had important discussions about pain relief preferences, what to pack in their hospital bag and how S (birth partner) can support A by being a walking, talking dose of Oxytocin. He's not going into this feeling useless- I have no doubt he'll be excellent on the day.

We watched a few beautiful births too- and there were happy tears. 🄹

Honestly, it's been a blast. And I'll miss them!

So if you need help feeling calm and confident heading into birth- I'm your gal. We're not talking toxic positivity, but informed empowerment!

Message me if you have any questions about pregnancy and birth- I'm happy to chat. Tasha x

A CALM SOCIAL FOR MUMS WHO'VE HAD ENOUGH (for the time being) šŸ˜†

This was an idea that came to me when I was in murky, sleep-deprived waters of those early postpartum days.

It would get to the early evening- a twilight between the day shift and the night shift- when I knew I needed a break. But I didn't have the brain space to arrange anything with friends in advance and I didn't really have anywhere to go besides wandering the middle aisles of Aldi... (which can feel like a mini spa break on the really tough days, let me tell you!).

But it got me thinking, what if there was a laid-back, welcoming sanctuary that got you out of the house but didn't feel like it was going to drain your social battery.

The Anti-Frazzle Lounge was born.

Whether you're barely keeping it together or just need a moment of peace, The Anti-Frazzle Lounge is your mid-week-ish exhale.

A low-key, come-as-you-are space for mums. Bring a book. Bring some work. Bring that craft project you've been meaning to make time for.

Bring your earplugs, we won't mind!

Here's what you can expect:
A quiet corner in a cosy bar where you can soothe your overstimulated nervous system.

Grab a drink downstairs and head on up to The Hipwell Bar to meet like-minded mums who just get it...or sit quietly and hear your own thoughts without interruption!

No agenda. No pressure. Just space.

🌲You’re spending your last cosy Christmas together as a couple. You’re snuggling on the sofa and thinking about the little hands that will be grabbing your tree this time next year. Not long now… ā¤ļø

⭐ You are heading into nesting mode and have been scrolling Pinterest for nursery inspo. You have been researching the pram and the car seat- it’s a whole world of choice.

šŸŽˆYou’re planning a cute little baby shower and have even thought about what to pack in your hospital bag.

ā“But how prepared are you both for the most wonderfully intense and important moment of your life? The birth.

🧠 Have you thought about pros and cons of different forms of pain relief? Do you have a preferences about how you want to deliver your placenta? Do you know what an episiotomy is or why the medical professionals might offer this during labour?

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøDo you know how you are both going to stay calm and collected? Or how to work with your body so that you are optimising your chances of having a straightforward and even enjoyable birth?!

šŸ„‚ We totally get that there’s a hell of a lot going on just before you have a baby, especially at this time of year. But if you have ā€˜birth’ on your to do list for 2025 check out our Birth Prep and Hypnobirthing courses or Free Tasters (link in bio).

You can see what the lovely people on our December course had to say about their experience. Life long friends in the making šŸ˜

I’ll be snuggling my two little Bebes this year rather than carrying around a hefty bump, but would do it all over again in an instant… birth included.

We show this list of anxieties to anyone thinking of doing birth prep with us; there isn’t a fear that we haven’t already come across, felt ourselves or a starting point that is too big.

With my first birth I was scared of not speaking up, feeling out of control and being left alone without Simon (it was the tail end of Covid). I didn’t feel confident about how I’d cope with c-section if I needed it… or having a cannula- I’m squeamish… With my second I was actually scared of the sensation of crowning (even though it was totally fine with my first) and how I was going to time getting childcare for when I went into labour.

I had to work through these fears and practise my hypno skills even though I do this for a job. It takes time and repetition to face birth with confidence and it takes support to feel like you can achieve the birth you would prefer.

If you are due in early 2025 and have it on your new year’s to-do list to prepare for birth click the link in our bio to browse our courses and tasters. Or DM us if you want to work with us on a 1:1 or online basis- we are flexible!

Can you spot your birth anxiety on our bingo board?

Two babies in 2024.

We shared the ups and the downs with each other. We shared our thoughts and our fears knowing others might judge us. We held each other when we were scared or upset because we know, first hand, that growing a human can be complicated.

When you reach out to The Birth Project to become part of your pregnancy, that’s what you’re getting... Two best friends and mums who really care and know how vulnerable this process can make you.

Despite our wobbles we both birthed powerfully and our busy minds were humbled by our bodies. That’s why we do this- we want to be your guides during a process that will well and truly change your life.

If you want to hear more about our births, join us on our last course of the year (December- starting at the end of November) or meet us in person at our free November taster click the link in our bio.

I am back. šŸ‘‹

This seems like an appropriate time to do it, so close to baby loss awareness week.

I have be missing from The Birth Project for the last year because I was finding a way to mend my broken heart after two miscarriages. Then, after finding out I was pregnant again, I had a pregnancy full of fear and trepidation. And now I consider myself one of the lucky ones, with a healthy baby now safely in my arms. I know everyone is not so lucky.

One year ago I was waiting for a miscarriage, my second miscarriage of that year. I felt broken but also grateful for the boys I had. I finally feel ready to be in this space again and to announce my new baby at six weeks old. I’ll share lots about his fast and furious four hour birth in good time.

Tasha and Annie have been busy working away whilst I’ve been navigating this grief and I am forever grateful to have such empathetic women in my life. We have been talking a lot about doing more for people who have been through what we have (we have had four miscarriages between us), because it seems that pregnancy and baby loss requires a significant amount of mental preparation and recovery. And we want to help with this.

For now though we are holding our earthside šŸŒ children a little tighter and remembering the ones we didn’t get to meet.

Sending so much love to everyone who has entered the side of the pregnancy and birth that is so often left in the shadows. Thankful to everyone making a space to share and celebrate the babies and dates we’ll never forget.

1. Self indulgent bump shot
2. Christmas - totally oblivious
3. Finding out I was pregnant again
4. Finally a happy scan
5. A beautiful beating heart
6. Telling the big boys
7. Growing
8. Growing some more - two days away from labour
9. Hello baby

is relevant - he was born to this song, their album was on repeat during the birth ā¤ļø
