Olney Allotments

Olney Allotments The Allotments Holders Association represent those who tend the plots on the site at Near Town Garden Feel free to come and see what we have created.

The Olney Allotments have been going since the late 1890's. The site is beautifully situated nestled beside lovely open green fields and is an ideal tranquil spot to garden, socialise, learn new skills and more importantly grow your own fruit and veg. The site has over 100 plots and more recently the new Community Allotment set up in November 2014, provides small growing areas for the less abled

, or where a full size plot is too much. The Community Plot allotmenteers range from 12 - 80

If you are interested in having a small space on our Community Allotment for growing a few veg, flowers herbs etc, please post and we will get back to you. We have many experienced gardeners who are on hold with tips and advice, and also have talks, events and demonstrations. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the the donations. A BIG THANK YOU to all who have helped and supported us raising funds for the allotment. Derek Ferris for the Poly Tunnel frame

You may have seen a few of these dotted about. They are rainwater storage containers and the ones in public spaces (I.e. are not on individual plots) are open to use by all at the allotments. We will add a little video to show how to use them.

🌱 **Mindful Watering & Bolting Rhubarb: A Warm Weather Gardening Reminder** 🚰

As temperatures rise, so does the need for mindful watering! 💦 Here are some top tips to keep your plots thriving without wasting precious resources:

✔️ **Water early or late** – Avoid the midday sun to reduce evaporation and ensure plants get the most out of each drop.
✔️ **Mulch is magic** – A good layer of mulch locks in moisture, keeps roots cool, and discourages weeds.
✔️ **Deep watering wins** – A thorough soak less often is better than frequent shallow sprinkles.

Meanwhile, **keep an eye on your rhubarb**! 🌿 If it starts throwing up tall flower stalks, it’s “bolting.” This happens when plants get stressed—often from heat or lack of water. If you spot it:

✂️ **Snip off flower stalks** ASAP to redirect energy back into the plant.
🌍 **Mulch and water deeply** to ease stress and keep those delicious stems growing.
⏳ **Harvest wisely** – Pick regularly but avoid over-harvesting young plants.

Let’s keep our plots thriving while being mindful of water use! 💚💧 What are your top tips for water-wise gardening? Share them below!

🌱🌸 **Plant a Little Extra for the Community!** 🌸🌱

As you’re sowing your seeds and planning your plots this season, how about growing a few extra plants? We'd love for you to consider donating some of your wonderful seedlings to support our **Plant Sale in May** and the **Cherry Fair in June**!

These events are not only a great opportunity to show off our collective green thumbs but also a fantastic way to **raise funds for the association** and continue supporting our allotment community.

Every plant counts—whether it’s veggies, flowers, or herbs—your contributions will make a big difference. 🌻🍅🌿

Thank you for your generosity and for helping our community grow stronger together!

Wasn't it nice to finally welcome a bit of rain? Perfect timing for the thirsty plots! Though, with the blustery weather we've had, it might be worth checking your cloches and coverings—some of them might have decided to go for a wander!

Looking ahead, the weekend is shaping up to be dry, so it’s a great opportunity to pop down to your allotments. Don't forget, we’ve got stocks of manure and compost available for sale to give your plots a boost!

As always, the kettle will be on for a cuppa and a chat this Saturday morning between 10 am and 12 pm. 🍵✨

See you there!

‼️All plots are now gone! Welcome new members ‼️

Are you looking for space to grow fruit, veg and flowers, but don't know where to start? Do you fancy trying allotment life but want to start small? Or are you downsizing from a bigger plot?

We have 3 plots available on the Community Allotment: one raised bed and two ground level beds.

You would join a community of helpful, like-minded people and be able to borrow tools and equipment and have access to the allotment toilet. The Community Allotment is partly accessible for wheelchair users. The Cabin is open for 2 hours every Saturday morning from 10-12.

You would have to become a member of the OAHA (subscription £12) and follow our guidelines.
