What is hypnobirthing & why is it important?

It’s not all sort fairy I promise! And I hope some of our previous clients can confirm but it covers a wealth of evidence based information so you can be as prepared and as educated going into all your appointments

It enables you to understand how your mind and body works in labour and birth, how to achieve an uninterrupted birth experience and make informed decisions that is centred around your individual needs

It provides not only education but comfort measures that you can add to your tool kit in order to achieve a positive experience. So much research demonstrates birth trauma exists and much of the concluding themes are because women did not understand what was happening

It enables your partner to be your advocate in the birthing space. We discuss place of birth including your own home, midwifery led units, birthing pools and the labour ward! This will help you choose where feels right for you.

It informs you who might attend your birth and for what reasons! It educates you on all the stages of labour and what to expect. We take about the drugs, the effects both positive and not so positive

It gives you balanced and unbiased information

It gives you confidence as you make your birth preference plan

It’s relaxing and 12 hours out of your busy schedule to reconnect as a couple as you prepare for the most important day of your lives: your baby’s birthday!

The 12-week scan!!

(often called the dating scan or first-trimester screening scan) it is important because it gives key information about both the baby’s development and the health of the pregnancy at a critical early stage!

Why the 12-week scan matters:

Confirms the pregnancy is viable

Checks the baby has a heartbeat

Confirms the baby is growing as expected

Accurate dating of the pregnancy

Measures the baby to determine the gestational age

Gives a more reliable due date than last period dates

Detects multiple pregnancies:
Confirms whether you’re carrying twins or more

Early check for major structural problems:
Some serious abnormalities (brain, abdominal wall, limb issues) can already be detected

Reassurance for parents:
Seeing movement and hearing about normal growth is often very reassuring

Can reduce anxiety in early pregnancy

Why it’s done specifically around 12 weeks:
Before this, the baby is often too small for accurate measurements

After this window, certain screening measurements are less reliable

Midwife Mairead is trained in the above and can offer you this detailed first scan HOWEVER it does not or cannot replace your NHS first scan.

But many units might be overwhelmed and this scan might occur a little later therefore we would be delighted to welcome you here xx
