Postpartum is a journey, and everyone’s experience is different. For me, I love getting back to exercise it has always been a huge part of my life and I’m lucky Tiarnán has been settled enough to enable me to.
This week as I had my first short run since pregnancy and I was buzzing. I still have lots of weaknesses to work on, but it was a great marker to show that my personal rehab was progressing.
It is recommended to wait until 12 weeks postpartum before you return to running, BUT you also need to have gradually built up strength in your pelvic floor & other muscles to enable this.

I highly recommend getting a postnatal check with a physiotherapist, to ensure you are doing your PF and core exercises correctly & ones that are specific for your individual needs. I had mine with Ciara , she is brilliant! I am now taking bookings for Mummy MOTs again.
Attending classes led by instructors that are specifically qualified to train postnatal ladies is also important to build strong foundations for your return to full exercise. Shauna and Michelle classes are excellent.
There is no magic switch at 6 or 12 weeks that you are completely healed, recovery times differ for everyone depending on your birth story, sleep, stress, training history and support network. Please be kind & patient with yourself whatever stage in your journey you are at.
