Today is for all of you. πΈβ¨
"Some women are not mothers by nature but by choice β and that choice is its own kind of grace."
For the mothers of children. For the women who longed to be mothers and carry that quietly. π€ For those who have lost a mother, or a child, and hold that grief tenderly alongside everything else today. ποΈ
For the aunties, the mentors, the friends who showed up. π The women who didn't birth anyone but have mothered everyone around them. The carers, the nurturers, the ones who love without condition and give without being asked.
π And yes β for those of us whose greatest loves have four legs. πΎ For the ones still by our side, and for the ones who are no longer with us but who we carry in our hearts every single day. π
π¬ A few years ago, I was part of a group of women. On Mother's Day, every single woman in that group was acknowledged by name on social mediaβ except me. Because I wasn't a mother in the way the world typically recognises. I sat with that. The invisibility of it. The message it sent, however unintentional β that my love, my caring, my way of showing up in the world counted for a little less.
I never want anyone in my community to feel that way. Not today. Not ever. π
If you love fiercely β a person, an animal, a community, a purpose β you are mothering something. And this day belongs to you just as much as anyone else. ππ«
Last Sunday at Orba, on International Women's Day, a room full of extraordinary women gathered for our Self Love Sunday retreat. πΏ Here I see women who carry so much. Who give so much. Who deserve so much more space than the world usually gives them. πͺπ»β¨
To my own mumβ thank you. For everything I carry from you. πΈ And to my sisters, my aunties and my only niece, continue to shine your light bright π
To every woman who has inspired me, guided me and trusted me with their growth β I don't take that lightly. Ever. ππ
Motherhood isn't a title. It's a way of loving. πΏπ
Happy Mother's Day to every woman who loves something bigger than herself. πΈβ¨
