Earlier this week, my son had one of his baby teeth extracted. There was a large cavity; we had repaired the tooth a few times, but the filling always fell out, and the dentist was concerned about infection. Fine. I’m not a fan of unnecessary procedures and try to avoid them as much as possible, but I accepted this one since the adult tooth was already on its way.
My son did really well. After the procedure, the dentist recommended stocking up on paracetamol, ibuprofen, Calpol—whatever we had at home (as long as it wasn’t aspirin, as it can interfere with blood clotting which is needed to stop the bleeding). We went home, and the first thing I gave him was ARNICA 200C. Arnica is a must‑have remedy for any dental work—I use it routinely in situations like this. There’s always some bruising and trauma after an extraction, and one of the classic signs that Arnica is needed is when the patient keeps saying, “I’m fine, don’t worry, I’m OK,” which my son actually did.
I also gave him STAPHYSAGRIA 200C, as this remedy is often used for trauma from bodily invasion (such as surgery or tooth extraction). And that was it. I put a few pills of each remedy into a bottle of water, shook it, and let him sip it throughout the evening while he rested.
When the anaesthetic wore off, he was absolutely fine—no more bleeding and no pain—so he didn’t need anything else. He’s just rinsing his mouth with salty water as the dentist recommended.
There are so many remedies that can support dental issues: • For anxiety before going to the dentist: ACONITE, GELSEMIUM, ARG‑NIT, CHAMOMILLA, PHOSPHORUS • For recovery from dental work: ARNICA, STAPHYSAGRIA, HYPERICUM, CALENDULA • For excessive bleeding that doesn’t stop: PHOSPHORUS • For pain: CHAMOMILLA, RUTA, HYPERICUM, GUN POWDER and more.
There are many more remedies to consider for dry socket, abscesses, bleeding gums/gingivitis, toothache, and more—though these require careful prescribing by a professional homeopath.
Remember, there are always natural options that work beautifully.
