I see such a lot of patients with low serum ferritin stores which creates problems with hair loss and the hair growth cycle.

Getting a correct diagnosis in the first instance is key. Should we find that low iron is contributing to your condition, we would be discussing iron supplementation based on your needs.

If you are experiencing more hair shedding than normal, please seek advice from a professional. Leaving things to deteriorate makes it harder to return to what is normal for you.

What happens in a consultation with a Trichologist?

The consultation process is very thorough and may take up to an hour. During the consultation, all aspects of your scalp or hair problem will be discussed at length to determine the correct diagnosis of your condition. The Trichologist will go through your full medial history, and discuss a range of aspects of your lifestyle. This can include: your diet, family history, any stress you may be under and any medications you may be on. The Trichologist will then conduct a thorough examination of your hair and scalp, which may include the use of a scalp microscope or magnifying glass.

The Institute of Trichologists is thrilled to announce that our register has been accredited under the Professional Standards Authority’s Accredited Registers programme!

Patients, service users and the public can now choose a Trichologist belonging to a register vetted and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (the Authority), an independent statutory body, accountable to Parliament.

Trichologists on the IOT’s register will be able to display the Accredited Register Quality Mark, a clear sign that they belong to a register which meets the Authority’s robust standards.

Had a great day in my little clinic today. 🔬

When I set out on my Trichology journey back in 2016 I didn’t appreciate how challenging the study would be or how fascinating!

Now I am part of the education team, supporting students on thier own Trichology journey working alongside the tutors that taught and shared thier knowledge with me. 🙌

A huge amount of organisation and planning has gone into this conference, which is promising to be the most exciting Trichology Event for 2023 - a ‘not to be missed’ two day conference hosted at one of London’s most prestigious addresses, the Royal Society for Medicine, London – 13th/14th August 2023.
