A little trip out of the Herbarium this week 🌿

I popped along to the Natural Health Trade Summit in Manchester. A day full of conversations, learning, and discovering what’s new (and what’s worth bringing back).

Always good to step outside the shop for a moment and come back with fresh ideas, new inspiration, and a few things I can’t wait to share with you 👀

Did you know?

Many herbs are actually stronger when dried than when fresh.

Drying concentrates certain plant constituents, which is why so much traditional herbal medicine relies on carefully dried herbs rather than fresh ones.

Less “fresh is best”, more “right process matters.”

Today is all about giving yellow flowers…
(which feels very convenient when the daffodils are absolutely showing off right now).

Sunshine, blue skies, and flowers everywhere, we’ll take it!

But beyond looking cheerful, flowers have always done more than just brighten a room. They soothe, support, and quietly do their thing in the background.

So whether you’re gifting a bunch, spotting them on a walk, or just enjoying the view, consider this your reminder that flowers are doing a lot more than being pretty.

Nature really went all out 🌼🌸🌼🌺🪷🪻

Herb of the month - turmeric

Golden. Grounding. Glowing.

Turmeric has been used for centuries in both food and traditional herbal practice and it’s easy to see why. That rich golden colour hints at what it offers: warmth, vibrancy and steady support.

Often chosen for:
🌿 Supporting a healthy inflammatory response
🌿 Joint comfort
🌿 Digestive support
🌿 Overall resilience

It’s one of those herbs that works beautifully behind the scenes. It’s steady, consistent and dependable.

We love it in teas, tinctures, capsules, and of course in the kitchen too.
If you’ve been feeling a little creaky, sluggish, or in need of something warming, turmeric might be worth exploring.

Pop into the Herbarium if you’d like to chat about the best form for you. We’ll help you choose something that suits your body, not just the label.

Not all supplements are the same. And not all advice is either.

You can buy vitamins, minerals and herbal products almost anywhere now, supermarkets, online, big chains.

But what you’re buying isn’t just a tablet. It's:
• A certain strength
• A particular form (some absorb better than others)
• A specific dose
• A combination of ingredients
• A manufacturing standard

And that all matters.
The right supplement can be supportive and effective. The wrong one can be underdosed, poorly absorbed, unnecessary, or occasionally not appropriate for you at all.

That’s where trained practitioners come in. Herbalists don’t just learn plants. We study anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. We train to understand interactions, contraindications, and individual differences.

Because supplements aren’t one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes what you actually need isn’t “the strongest one on the shelf.” It’s the right one, in the right form, at the right time.

Independent herbal shops like Oswestry Herbarium aren’t just places to buy products. They’re places to ask questions, to talk things through, to get guidance that considers you, not just a label, and that kind of support will always matter.

Soft leaves. Powerful support.

Mullein is great support for the lungs and respiratory system, especially when things feel a little heavy, irritated or congested.

It’s a plant herbalists often turn to for:
🌿 Clearer breathing
🌿 Seasonal respiratory support
🌿 Soothing dry, tickly airways
🌿 Gentle lung nourishment

At the Herbarium, our mullein tincture is made in-house with care and it’s also available as tea (bags and loose leaf), so you can choose the form that suits you best.

Want to find out if mullein might be worth exploring pop in and we’ll help you out!

International Women's Day!

Women’s bodies are often expected to just… cope.

Hormones.
Cycles.
Pregnancy.
Menopause.
Mental load.

At the Herbarium, a huge part of what we do is hold space for women’s health properly, not dismissively, not hurriedly.

Listening, explaining and supporting.

Because women deserve care that feels informed, respectful and thorough.

Today feels like a good day to say that out loud!
