Massage therapy works on nearly all the muscles and soft tissues, but also affects the skin and many other systems such as the nervous, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems. All the techniques use a hands-on approach allowing Alexis Jackson to explore the muscles for areas of tightness, spasm or soreness. It is a complementary therapy that covers the whole body relieving muscle tightness and compensatory tension.
Common issues include:
An underlying condition i.e. osteoarthritis
An old injury
A new injury
Repetitive strain issue
Compensatory or adaptive change issue
Muscular restriction, causes a shortening within muscles, muscle groups and myofascial connections. These shortened regions draw the joints closer together creating a frictional effect on the joint. This has a degenerative outcome and creates inhibition, which in turn creates its own compensation, resulting in a postural change.
Massage therapy helps to remove this inhibition by releasing areas of reduced mobility and allows the moving parts to move. By using hands-on techniques manipulating specific areas and depth of tissue, this enhances targeted blood flow and facilitates natural healing and positive change within the body.
Pre Event massage can warm and ready the body for action whilst Post exercise massage minimises stiffness and speeds repair to tissue damaged as an inevitable result of physical stress and fatigue. Passive stretches help to keep or restore joints and muscles to full working capacity. Massage can benefit well-being, release tension and aid mental relaxation. In the event of an injury, or chronic degenerative conditions massage is of great benefit to ease pain and prevent atrophy of muscles.
