Pilates & Positivity

Pilates may be just the thing you need to restore your sense of well-being. This mind-body form of exercise is proven not only to build strength, improve flexibility and restore proper alignment, but also to reduce stress and contribute to a healthier mental and emotional state of mind.

Pilates aids relaxation by teaching the body to recruit specific muscles in a steady, controlled way which increases strength and well-being as well as reducing the build-up of muscle tension. Pilates incorporates breathing and encouragement of body awareness for a heightened mind body connection.

Pilates can be incredibly powerful in providing a place for the body to relax, rejuvenate and release tension. It also provides a space for the mind to focus on the present moment, leaving worries at the door. The Pilates principle, breath, oxygenates the blood which triggers the brain to calm down. The breath creates a physiological response in the body that naturally decreases your stress and anxiety. Learning to release unnecessary tension in your body will help you to find ease and flow in movement and in the rest of your life.

Of course I’m not advocating drinking 😜

Pilates is an education in
body awareness – it changes your shape by educating you in daily life activities. When you're cooking, brushing your teeth, lifting or unloading etc., – the lessons are coming home to pull your stomach in and put your shoulders down. There is an attention required in doing exercises that changes your awareness even after class. It teaches you how to train your mind and build symmetry and co-ordination in the body and when you can get control of the little things, that's practising willpower. – the biggest benefits of personal awareness – of how you sit or how you stand or how you move and being able to relate those habits to the aches and pains and injuries you have or have had in the past.

Every tiny hinge, gentle oscillation, and mindful breath is progress. It’s not about being flexible overnight — it’s about letting your body say yes to moving safely and freely. Come fold with curiosity, not strain!”

Pilates and anti-ageing

You can appear taller, leaner, and younger by correcting your posture. Pilates is a form of exercise that can be done into old age without any negative impact on the body and joints, and helps maintain cognitive ability, balance, bone density as well as spinal health. Think about what makes a person look older you first think about is wrinkles, saggy skin and gray hair. Yet poor posture also makes people look older. Regular Pilates sessions help to strengthen the core muscles, which are crucial for maintaining excellent posture.

The pain and discomfort caused by poor posture is a factor in making people appear older.

Look around you and see how being stooped and rounded detracts from one’s appearance. A 70 year old who stands tall and erect with a graceful gait, can look as much as 15 years younger.

we’ll be using a medicine ball which kicks your core muscles into high gear.
