How does LEAN and KEEN work?

Just like that šŸ‘‡šŸ»

These were jeans last worn at Christmas.

This fabulous lady committed in January fully to the plan.

First 2 weeks were hard - because it always is, nothing easy is really worth having.

Now she’s absolutely flying.

She has the benefit of working with me 1-1 as well so I can physically ensure her training progresses every week. She also regularly attends classes and has increased her steps and added in a little cardio to speed things up.

This is what happens when you go all in.

The methods work.

The food is lower than what you normally eat because being female and not particularly heavy or tall that’s what needs to happen.

She’s eaten pizza , burgers , had carbs , not skipped a meal or used a fatloss jab . She’s eaten regular family meals, and once this diet is done we will increase food - but there will be guidance there.

She’s not the only one in the 2 of my groups to make insane progress .

There are so many different reasons why you choose one gym over another.

We all have our own unique client base of people that we serve.

The people that go elsewhere might look at what we do and think, it’s too small, too cliquey, they push you too hard, the kit isn’t shiny enough , I know too many people that go there, the timetable doesn’t suit me , I didn’t realise it was 24/7… there’s a myriad of reasons. And it’s not my job to fit their mould.

But what I can tell you is this - the ones that come - and stay , stay because they feel like they are part of a special community. We don’t just deliver classes and 1-1s, we get to know our customers ā¤ļø

They know that we go even further than the extra mile to try and accommodate the customers we do keep.

They are important to us so we’re always listening to customer feedback .

Our gym is very client centred - which is how I coach my 1-1 clients.

There’s no cut and paste here, we value everyone’s uniqueness. We know them personally, they’re not just a number to us.

If your fitness journey is just about getting in and out of a class or the gym , and you dont want any extra guidance, help or simply feeling supported , then we are probably not the right space for you.

But if there was ever a time to place value on shopping local and supporting independent businesses - which is what keeps our lovely town alive, then that time is now šŸ’„

I’m gonna tell you a little bit about why lean and keen may be different to other group fatloss coaching methods.

I’m a busy mum of 4 kids, a gym to run, a PT business to run and online coaching to run.

I have a hot as f*ck social life (when I’m not in hibernation)

I’ve dieted successfully as many times as I’ve failed. Because whilst the process is the same no matter who you are - calories in vs calories out, what you eat matters , cardio to ramp it up, steps to help the process, lifting progressively so you don’t look like mashed potato at the end of your diet. There’s also an element of making a diet work for your lifestyle- we can’t all eat from Tupperware 24/7. There’s also a s**t tonne of psychology behind why diets fail. It’s not the diet per se but the methods and the ex*****on.

That’s why I give you all the tools possible to get you successfully in a deficit. I give you round the clock support, help you find family friendly high protein easy to cook meals. Arm you with the psychology to help you understand that it’s not a willpower issue.

If you danced on tables in the 90s and noughties, your bedtime routine probably looks like ;

Magnesium, ashwaghanda, glycine, no caffeine past 2pm, maximum 2 coffees per day, in bed for 7, no later than 8 , cotton pyjamas with the window open all year round, and less than 7 hours sleep leaves you feeling like you have indeed danced on tables all night šŸ˜…

Don’t even ask me if I fancy a few bevvies because they need to be planned into my calendar way in advance. Even a trip to the cinema gets me humming and haaaaring if it’s a later than 7pm showing šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

If your bedtime sounds like mine and you’re not strength training, then don’t blame me when your bones turn to dust in 10 years time. I warned you that lifting weights is where it’s at for strong bone density, and keeping some shape so you don’t feel like sadsack (because if you’re my age you’ll also remember the raggydolls)

This is a client I’ve worked with for a long time.

She came to me when menopause was menopausing hard and she had lost all self confidence.

It’s not been an overnight transformation. Because these things take time, but also because even if you think you’re ready, you’re sometimes not.

Menopause makes fatloss harder, but not for the reasons you might think.

You don’t suddenly gain extra fat around your midsection, your body fat has redistributed from other areas.

Your metabolism isn’t broken, it’s slowed down because you have lost muscle mass which has been naturally declining since your twenties.

The same foods you always ate make you gain weight. Actually your appetite is difficult to regulate because your sleep is of poorer quality, your portions have become bigger, you eat out more, you drink more you snack more - you lack structure, and you either don’t move enough or it’s not with enough intensity.

The same rules apply - the game just upped a notch in difficulty šŸ’„

What you need is structure, guidance, support and be willing to listen and follow through.

Welcoming February with its sunny start šŸ«¶šŸ¼

January is such a hard month for many , but the older I get the harder it feels.

I made myself a promise to live by the motto no plans for Jan - to try and limit the overwhelm that I sometimes feel when my diary is back to back. And it really helped 😊

January in our gym is traditionally a quiet month - we aren’t like other places - the vast majority of our members are consistent year round. They are loyal - unconcerned by the shiny new places. We don’t have the usual brigade of new year new me sign ups, we gain people via strong recommendations , or people that have been considering their health and lifestyle for a long time, not rushing into their decisions. And that’s why we love where we work ā¤ļø

We have started this year much busier than normal, which I hope is a sign for how much we intend to grow. We are all such a great team at the yard - home to some of the best trainers in our area - we are proud to all offer something slightly different to each other , whilst complimenting each other, and all leaning into our strengths and helping one another with their weaknesses.

If this is how 2026 is starting, I’m here for it ā¤ļø

I’ve mentioned before , that energy attracts energy. And the law of attraction - you get what you give.

The yard was started by me - my energy. And that grew - which is the wonderful thing about my gym. The people are all wonderful.

If you are at a gym and you don’t leave feeling uplifted and better than before your session, you’re in the wrong place.

My energy is not for everyone , but the ones that it’s for really gain from it .

Training in a gym isn’t just about weightloss, gains and progress. It’s about connection and community too ā¤ļø

You’re busy worrying that AI will take all of our jobs - but AI can’t show up at the gym, Pb on a back squat and make loads of friends in the process. AI cant give you that sense of satisfaction when you’ve completed a really physically hard task like hyrox. AI cant share your joy when you’ve improved the way your body feels from consistently showing up for yourself.

But AI can show you how you’d look if you didn’t do those things.

Strength training is one of the biggest things you can do to prevent aging. Human connection and socialising significantly slow the biological aging process.

Don’t worry about AI, worry about what you’re doing to slow aging and live well ā¤ļø

I try really hard not to spend my time off talking about work, but I can’t help it yard, yard, yard, yard blah blah yard yard.

Our lean and keen February group is ready to get started on Monday.

The January group are flying high , it’s so exciting seeing their pics week on week and the visual changes.

Told you the yard comes everywhere in my head with me…

Yesterday’s hyrox was FUN but hard in equal measure.

I can’t say I love hyrox as much as I love the people i do it with šŸ¤. And that’s why I’m happy to show up and be a bang average athlete every time.

Big thanks to for being such a great partner and for being the best solo cheerleader. What a lovely eve we had ā¤ļø

Pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone is where the biggest most positive changes occur.

Put yourself out there and see what happens to you. It will never be as scary as you think.

Wherever I go. The yard comes with me.

There isn’t a single hour of the day I’m not thinking about my business. Fretting, planning, growing, excited, stressed, happy and sad.

So extending myself online has been really exciting for me.

Watching my current group succeed day by day has been a big thrill.

Are they eating fish and rice cakes ? Absolutely not. They’re thriving, not just surviving.

Next intake closes on Friday until the end of feb.
