Rachel Ewing Yoga

Rachel Ewing Yoga It is also a brilliant therapeutic tool for anyone struggling with health or fitness.

"IF YOU CAN BREATHE, YOU CAN DO YOGA!"

I'm an experienced teacher offering weekly classes and weekend workshops in Kundalini yoga, Dru yoga, Senior yoga and meditation in Otley, Menston and on line. Yogi Bhajan said, “even if you just lean slightly in the right direction, you’ll get some benefit!” and my aim is to make yoga inclusive for men and women of all abilities and fitness levels. Dru yoga's flowing style makes it very accessible - a great form of physical exercise and mental discipline for those who want to increase flexibility, build core strength, destress and relax. Modifications are always offered and students are encouraged to adapt postures to suit their needs :)
Kundalini yoga offers a very different experience working with kriya (sequences of movement), mudra, mantra and meditation to shift energy and expand consciousness (sometimes very fast!)

NOW, more than ever before, is a great time to learn to meditate! Why? Because now, more than ever before, our mental health is under so much strain as we move through this time of crisis and change.

Meditation is so beneficial for our mental health, and so relevant for these crazy times we’re living in, because it repatterns the mind. Meditation builds coherence and enables deep concentration so that rather than having a mind moving in many different directions now you have a mind that is working together to one point.

You begin to tap into the underlying presence of joy which the yogis say is our true nature and you begin to tap into the underlying connection to everything and everyone.

Meditation & the Mind is an 8 week course on Zoom Monday evenings 7.15 – 8pm. You can join LIVE or get the recording to use in your own time. It starts 12 Jan with a FREE taster session and then continues through the Winter months into Spring.

Each session includes gentle stretches, powerful breathing practices from Kundalini & Hatha yoga and a guided meditation. The whole session can be done sitting on a chair (…or on the sofa if you prefer!) Message me if interested x

There’s a saying in the Kundalini world that “Kundalini yoga finds you.” And for many, that’s exactly how it feels.

It may not begin with conscious searching. It may come as a whisper, or in this case, as a book found at just the right moment—Maya Fiennes' "Yoga for Real Life". The attic becomes a sanctuary, a place to explore in secret, like something half-forbidden, especially when you’ve come from a deep loyalty to another lineage.

But the body knows. The energy speaks for itself. One posture—a simple spinal twist—can unlock something profound. Suddenly there’s clarity where there was fog, power where there was fatigue. That’s the intelligence of the practice. It moves beyond words.

The journey deeper into Kundalini Yoga can be unsettling. It’s not a graceful unfolding; it can be weird, disorienting. You might resist it, question it, even judge it. But the pull continues. Teachers appear, sometimes only online. Festivals, workshops, glimpses of the depth this tradition offers.

And then a turning point—like a 10-day immersion in India. Ten hours of practice a day, stripping back the layers. You return changed, and the world changes too. (In this case, quite literally—lockdown begins the very next day.)

That enforced stillness, after such intensity, becomes the perfect cocoon. The clarity gained doesn’t fade—it takes root. And with it comes the decision to go further. Not just for yourself, but to share what’s now become part of your own awakening.

POTENTIAL FOR TRANSFORMATION
From posture to perspective shift

Yoga challenges us — not just in the body, but in the way we relate to challenge. That’s part of what makes it so transformational. Holding a difficult pose becomes a metaphor: can I stay with this? Can I soften within the effort?

These small, internal shifts begin to ripple out. Through regular practice, our nervous system rewires itself, our breath patterns change, and our capacity to respond rather than react starts to grow. The postures are just the starting point — what matters is the subtle work underneath.

Yoga gives us a different experience of being in the world. One with a little more grace, a little more steadiness.

BLESS yourself with this Kundalini meditation practice. Holding your right hand above the crown of your head and your left hand at your heart centre (palms face down) ...breathe long and slow and deep.

Take a moment to reflect on your own unique journey since the summer Solstice, all the ups and downs and twists and turns, all the richness of life.

At this darkest point in the year connect deeply with yourself and your own inner light,  repeating silently (or out loud) " I bless myself, I bless myself, I bless myself."
