Oh dear - this happens to many of us. Just when we yearn for a quick fall into a deep sleep, do we struggle the most!

Many things can interfere with our ability to fall asleep when we're tired: things on our mind, uncomfortable bed/pillow, or noisy partner (snorer).

YPS's 'Secrets to a restful night's sleep' starts with an evaluation of the quality of your sleep and potential 'sleep blockers,' followed by an environmental audit to check that your bedroom is as conducive to a good night's sleep as possible. The course ends on proven techniques for improving sleep.

What sort of Monday are you going to have? Will you be busy and feel overwhelmed, or organised, productive, and in control?

To avoid getting swept away with the chaos that our working lives often bring, consider taking a mindfulness moment.

Mindfulness practice helps you process your thoughts and decreases the control they have on your emotions and actions.

You might not have a Buddha around to remind you to meditate, but a specific item, such as, a picture on a wall, placed in an area you walk past every day at home, can be just as effective in grounding you to your present moment. It can remind you to take a moment to 'sit with yourself,' away from external influences, and 'just be.'

Self-esteem is highly affected by acceptance and rejection in our social world - and this includes work colleagues.

If you head up a team and are aware of colleagues being isolated, step in and lead by example. Be inclusive, accepting, and alert HR to the need for training in relationship development.

Staff will never stay where they don't feel accepted, so as well as it being the right thing to do, addressing this issue makes financial sense too!
