Lately, I have not been very present on social media, as I've been busy in the clinic, reflecting on my practice, and laying some groundwork for the months ahead. I am enjoying spending time with my family at a slower pace. Hope the summer is kind to you too ☀️

Lumps and nodules... palpation is important part of my clinical practice. Touch informs my diagnosis and treatment. Just like I carefully watch the way you move and carry yourself and listen to the intonation, rhythm and pattern of your speech and voice, I get even more information from the way your body feels under my hands and responds to my touch. I feel for places of excessive heat and cold, for undue firmness and laxity. I read your body like a map and know every contour of you. I am also MSc level educated and biomedically and anatomically trained to recognise areas of concern that warrant further investigation and/or red flags. So when I spot any new physical or functional developments or observe any irregularities, I am swift to document my observations and appropriately refer on. When it comes to new lumps, they need to be checked out, however benign they turn out to be. Some parts of our bodies are difficult to see by ourselves. Sometimes I may be the only person that has the time and opportunity to consistently observe you, and I do so. Have a lovely weekend everyone and look after each other. I mean look, really, look!

PROTECT-C trial for Women aims to identify early changes leading to development of breast, ovarian, endometrial and colorectal cancer.

Yorkshire has the highest level of cancer occurrence in England. Thousands of women living in Yorkshire will be offered tests to find out if they are at high risk of cancer as part of this new clinical trial.

The PROTECT-C trial will use saliva-based genetic tests to assess a woman's risk of developing breast, ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal cancer. The trial is recruiting 5,000 women and is supported by the NHS DigiTrials recruitment service, which helps identify and contact suitable participants, according to NHS England. The PROTECT-C trial will investigate the risks, benefits and feasibility of introducing testing for all women.

Similar at home saliva based genetic testing is already available to people with Jewish ancestry. Individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent are far more likely to have inherited faulty BRCA genes than the general population. Those born with impaired BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes have a greater risk of developing breast, ovarian, prostate or pancreatic cancer. Anyone aged over 18 who has at least one Jewish grandparent is eligible for screening, under the NHS Jewish BRCA Testing Programme (also link in comments).
