If you’re thinking of making changes this year, focus on consistency over intensity.

We often choose intensity because it feels more ambitious, but what we’re really doing is mistaking ambition for impatience.

By prioritising consistency, you allow small, steady actions to rewire your brain through neuroplasticity - the brain’s ability to adapt and change.

However, intensity often fizzles out before these changes have time to happen in the brain, leaving us back to where we started, often to restart the same cycle again and again.

Consistent efforts build up over time and make changes in the brain, turning what once felt difficult into something effortless, and intensity naturally follows.

And if you’re ready to reclaim your time and achieve your goals by building a healthier relationship with technology, my book, The Phone Fix, is here to help. Discover how small, consistent changes can transform your digital habits and bring balance back to your life. Swipe to see the brand-new paperback cover, out February 6th! 📚✨

Not my typical post, but I wanted to share something special with you all 🥰…

There are so many incredible teachers who follow me here, and I’ve had the privilege of connecting with many of you who adapt my work for their students helping it reach and shape little minds 🙏🏻.

But last week, something truly special happened…

I found out that my daughter’s primary school headteacher has been following me for years! 🤯

She only realised this when writing a swimming certificate for my little one and saw her surname.

We, of course, gifted copies of my book to the school (alongside a very special Christmas card). 🎄

Of course, my little one was beyond excited. After all, her name is in mummy’s books! She even brought an extra copy in her bag to “read during carpet time” at school.

As 2024 nears its close, I can’t believe this is the year my book was released - and I became an author. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey with me. 💛

I hope you enjoy the remainder of this year, have restful holidays, and I look forward to sharing more neuroscience 🧠 with you in the coming year.

Lifting the lid on the 'black box' that is often thought to be our brain and the role emotions play. I frequently have to explain this mechanism to patients in memory clinic where depression/other mental health conditions can cause symptoms so severe that people can cause people to worry that they are suffering from dementia. Let me know if you found this post helpful and can relate in the comments.

By the way, if you have formed negative digital habits such as checking your phone in response to emotional triggers and relying on it to provide escapism, then please do not despair. I honestly wrote my book - The Phone Fix - just for you and people tell me daily how much it has helped transform their relationship with technology.

If you are interested in this topic, I will by sharing my expertise at the Go Mental () festival on the 12th October in London. Check out my bio to order tickets and you can use the code FAYE10 for an extra discount.

This is the type post that shows you the powerful effects of getting outside has on your brain. And please note that this does not depend on the weather - it does not have to be sunny which is great for those of us who are mystified by the British 'summer'.

This message really could change someone's day:

If you're finding things tough, remember that reaching out for support can really help, whether that is a friend, a loved one or professional help. Opening up about your struggles isn't 'nothing' - it has real, tangible effects on your brain 🧠.

Read the whole post and you will understand 🫶.

Our brain is what makes us who we are and one of the biggest perks of my jobs, as a neurology doctor and neuroscientist, is to be able to explain concepts that people are experiencing on a DAILY basis but unaware of what is happening.

The power of this knowledge is often understimated but I find that it leads to great levels of understanding, self-compassion and positive change.

There is a lot of worry and anxiety surrounding phones/technology and this is what motivated me to write a book to help. The kindle version of my book - The Phone Fix - is on a limited offer (U.K.). So, for less than a cup of coffee, you can have access to nearly two decades of my neuroscience knowledge.

Given how much time we spend on our phones, this will be the best investment that you will ever make!

This is a great chance to pick up a reference copy if you listened to it as an audiobook or if you have a hard copy and would like online access. Please recommend it to people who may need it too - I don't know how long this limited offer will last.

Who can relate to this?

WIth strong societal expectations to be ever more efficient, we may end up running in low power mode and, as a result, becoming more inefficient!

I am heading in for a shift in the hospital after which I've got a couple of weeks of holiday for Easter during which time I will try to recharge and not let work bleed into it (as much as is within my control).

When I am in this situation, I always remind myself - Good work takes YEARS (decades in fact) but burnout can be extremely quick.

An easy and neuroscientific way to think about ADHD and explain it to others.

This is from a Q&A on my stories a few weeks ago. I received so many messages telling me how helpful this explanation is and huge numbers of you have asked me to save it to the grid for sharing.

Our digital habits determine what type of content we access and how often we access it.

Each of us will have hundreds if not thousand of digital habits.

And I want to emphasise that it’s all about habits, not time.

Because there is a lot of focus on screen time but that is a rather blunt instrument to use.

I liken habits to screen time by saying to someone handing me a single figure of all the medication they take.

Telling me, as a doctor that that you are on 1 g of medication per day will not be useful. This could be 2 tablets of paracetamol or it could be two dozen different tablets all with different effects.

We need to remember that quantity says very little about quality and also says very little about our individual circumstances.

This is what motivated me to write my book - The Phone Fix - to help YOU build healthy digital habits that suit your life. So glad to hear that it’s changing people’s perspective and lives already 🥹🫶🏻.
