The EU have issued a new directive that will be effective from January 1st 2030 which covers the decimalisation of time. In the EU from January 1st 2030, there will be 100 seconds in an minute, 100 minutes in an hour, 10 hours in a day and 10 days in a week. This means there will be 100,000 seconds in an EU day compared to 86400 in the rest of the world so the new EU second will be slightly shorter than the non EU second. Microsoft and Google are currently rewriting there operating systems to cater for the new time regime. The EU is expecting the rest of the world to migrate to the new decimal time standard (DTS) with the UK already pledged to support the standard and migrate by 2032.
