Two years on from launching our Knee Clinic, we’re proud of just how much it has grown—and more importantly, how many people it has helped.

What started as a focused service has developed into a trusted pathway for patients struggling with a wide range of knee problems. Over the past two years, we’ve successfully supported individuals with conditions such as ligament injuries, meniscal tears, patellofemoral (anterior knee) pain, osteoarthritis, tendon issues, post-surgical rehabilitation, and general overuse or sports-related injuries.

Our approach has always been centred on combining thorough assessment, accurate diagnosis, hands-on treatment, and tailored exercise rehabilitation. This integrated method means we don’t just treat symptoms—we address the underlying cause and support long-term recovery.

Every patient’s journey is different, and that’s why personalised care is at the heart of what we do. Whether someone is aiming to return to sport, stay active, or simply move without pain, we’ve seen first-hand how the right combination of expertise and rehabilitation can make a real difference.

Two years in, the results speak for themselves: improved outcomes, increased confidence, and many patients getting back to doing what they love.

Meet Tom Bedford, Director at Iffley Turn Practice

Tom graduated with a first-class degree from the European School of Osteopathy in 1998 and has been helping patients ever since—so with nearly 30 years of experience, there’s not much he hasn’t seen! He has a particular passion for treating sciatic and lower back pain, and is known for working wonders with stubborn shoulder problems.

Alongside running the clinic, Tom has extensive teaching experience, including a decade as a clinic tutor at Oxford Brookes, and has taught osteopathic techniques across the UK and Europe. He’s also co-founder and Chair of the award-winning Oxfordshire Osteopathic Network and has contributed to the profession through his work with the General Osteopathic Council.

Outside the clinic, Tom enjoys cycling and spending time in nature as a keen birder, photographer, and conservationist. He is amazing.

(And yes—I might be a little biased as his colleague, number one fan… and wife! 😊 Summeara)

🎓 Is revision taking a toll on your teen’s body?

Long hours at a desk don’t just challenge the brain — they can quietly impact posture, breathing, and overall comfort too.

We can help with some hand on treatment and tailored advice on postural issues.

Tom and Summeara spent their Sunday investing in something that truly strengthens the care we provide 💙

They attended an incredible Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course delivered by Jude Houseago — and it was worth every single moment. The day offered powerful insights and practical tools that will directly benefit our patients.

In healthcare, we often see people come in with physical pain, but this course reinforced just how closely mental health and physical wellbeing are connected. Understanding what might be happening beneath the surface allows us to listen more deeply, support more effectively, and recognise when someone may need help beyond their physical symptoms.

As registered Osteopaths, completing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an essential part of maintaining high standards of care — and this course was a meaningful and impactful way to do just that.

It’s a valuable step forward in ensuring we treat the whole person — not just the pain they present with.

Grateful for the learning, and excited to bring this into our everyday patient care.

What happens at your first osteopathy appointment?

If you’ve never seen an osteopath before, it’s normal to wonder what the first consultation involves.

We’ll start with a chat about what’s brought you in. I’ll ask about your symptoms, when they started, what makes them better or worse, and how they’re affecting your day-to-day life. We’ll also go through your medical history, lifestyle, work, and any previous injuries so I can get a full picture of your health.

Next, we will carry out a physical assessment. This may include looking at your posture, how your body moves, and gently examining the areas involved. Sometimes pain in one area is linked to another part of the body, so we may check a few related areas too.

In most cases, we will start treatment in this first appointment. Osteopathic treatment uses hands-on techniques to help improve movement, reduce tension, and support your body’s natural healing.

Before you leave, we’ll also talk about the next steps. This may include simple exercises, posture advice, or small changes that can help your recovery and keep you moving well.

If you’ve been thinking about booking but weren’t sure what to expect, hopefully this helps!

Some patients ask me why children would even need to come for osteopathy.

And honestly… I used to wonder the same thing.

Surely babies and children come into the world perfectly formed and fresh — without the aches and strains we see in adults?

But in practice, I’ve seen first-hand just how much babies and children can benefit from gentle osteopathic care.

From unsettled little ones and sleep struggles in babies, to growing aches, postural tension and sports strains in older children — their bodies are constantly adapting and changing. Sometimes they just need a little support along the way.

Paediatric osteopathy uses very gentle, age-appropriate techniques designed to support comfort, movement and overall wellbeing.

If you’ve been wondering whether osteopathy could help your child, you’re very welcome to get in touch — I’m always happy to talk things through.

💙 Your child’s comfort matters.
