Osteoporosis - a silent disease 1 in 3 women will develop osteoporosis and suffer a fragility fracture.

Our bones are constantly turning over. Every 7 years your skeleton is renewed!

Bone density peaks at 30 and begins to decline mid 40s, when levels of bone-bolstering estrogen start to decline.

Bones become more fragile as we age when the rate of turn over exceeds the rate of production
To look after our bone health, lifestyle is vitally important - keeping a healthy weight (BMI 19-25), quitting smoking, limiting alcohol

This is a great article highlighting the importance of HRT in the prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis. HRT does stimulate cells to ‘make’ more bone which requires amino acids (protein), calcium and phosphates, Vitamin D as well as a ‘stimulant’ in form of weight-bearing exercises which will put ‘stress’ on bone.

Only when all those building blocks are available are the cells able to make new bone hence it is so important to have a diet high in protein, minerals and vitamin D as well as HRT and weight bearing exercises.
