Are microbiome tests worth the money?

Microbiome tests have become a popular tool for exploring different components of bacteria and microbes in the digestive system. However, at-home tests only look at a small portion of the bacteria in the gut microbiome — 100,000 biomarkers sound a lot until you realise that on a given day your microbiome is generating trillions of biomarkers.

In this week’s video, Dr Michael Stein addresses the topic of microbiome tests and a simple solution for maintaining a healthy and diverse gut microbiome.

In addition, it’s important to know that the makeup of the gut microbiome changes over time depending on the food we eat.

Lastly, almost all the evidence around the importance of various “bad” bacteria in your microbiome is correlative which means they may not directly cause the disease or condition being studied.

Remaining focused at work can be exceptionally difficult when surrounded by numerous distractions. Multitasking might sound like a good idea at first, but is our brain equipped to perform two tasks at once?

Contrary to common belief, recent studies reveal that multitasking falls short of expectations. In reality, it leads to a lack of focus and poorer performance. When your brain is constantly switching gears to bounce back and forth between tasks, you’re more likely to make a mistake.

That’s why it’s best to concentrate on just one thing at a time and keep away unessential distractions.

Injectable weight loss drugs, such as Wegovy (Semaglutide) are taking the world by storm.

With the data mainly from individuals with type 2 diabetes, should there be concern about the use in the wider population?

In this week’s video, Dr Michael Stein talks about his concerns around the unknown long-term impact of these drugs and shares his advice for those who are considering these medications.

What are your thoughts on the likes of Wegovy? Would you consider taking it to lose a bit of weight given the unknown longer-term risks? Let us know in the comments below.

Alarming new study from New Zealand highlights the link between children's screen time and a higher risk of diabetes and high blood pressure later in life.

Our CEO and founder, Dr Michael Stein, who holds a doctorate in Physiological Sciences (Immunology), sheds light on the latest research.

His advice is simple: ensure your kids don't sit for too long or spend too much time using screens without taking breaks to move around.

Managing your energy at work is important to prevent feeling tired in the afternoon.

One way to do this is by eating a combination of carbs and protein, which slows down the digestive process of carbohydrates and helps regulate blood sugar levels. You can also regulate your energy by focusing on lifestyle factors like sleep, diet, exercise, and stress.

Try incorporating these five factors into your routine for better energy levels.

Feeling burnout at work? You’re not alone!

Burnout is on the rise in our always-on world. But it doesn’t happen overnight and can’t be healed overnight either!

Taking breaks, practising mindfulness and taking time for yourself are great to prevent it from taking over – but they don’t address the root cause of the problem.

The good news is that with the right tools and a change of mindset, you can start the process of recovery and live a healthy life.

Added Health focuses on preventive health and takes an holistic approach uniquely complete look at every individual, using the latest evidence-based methods. It helps you and your employees to tackle the root cause of the burnout and make healthy, long-term lifestyle changes to feel, work and live better.
