Yay - really pleased to have been issued with the most recent copy of my certificate as a Recommended Practitioner by the Pelvic Partnership.

I love helping women during and after pregnancy.

Happy Friday all and another beyond grateful Friday thank you to the lovely client who bought in these yummy little treats when I saw her for an appointment in the clinic! Thank you! Here are my top tips for breast feeding comfortably so that you feel as good as possible even if you are recovering from back pain or pelvic girdle pain. My lovely colleagues Penny Henderson, Breastfeeding Coach, Chiropractor and Acupuncturist and Trudy Brock Birthjourneys Midwifery probably have other great tips to add. These ladies would be a great source of wisdom to seek out if you need extra help breast feeding your baby. There is also the national breastfeeding helpline. and here in Oxford we have Oxfordshire Breast feeding Support.

Help is out there, look after yourselves Mama's.

A few days ago I discovered this Radio 5 Live show that you can later listen to as a podcast and think it’s BRILLIANT!!

It’s called “That time of the month”

The hosts and interviewees discuss very honestly women’s health issues.

What I love is the openness, the fact that the advise and info given seems really up to date and the fact that very often the doctors are referring back to the “mind-body” connection. They recognise that one affects the other! I see this SO often with people in clinic and it’s so great to hear this from other health professionals.

Episodes I’ve explored so far include Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Vaginismus and Vulvodynia.

Learning more about the challenges faced by people with this condition and how to help them is fascinating to me. But, these conditions also feel relevant to me as a chiropractor. Not because I treat them but because their existence sometimes gives insight and clues.

For example it’s common that people with Pelvic Girdle Pain also suffer issues like IBS, so too do people with ongoing back pain.

Also it speaks to the reason why we must look at the whole person! For example someone coming in with back or pelvic pain - it’s so important to know if they are having other issues - let’s take endometriosis as an example - as they may find their back pain flares up during an endo flare up. Getting to know the whole person truly helps treat the whole person better.

Yay! I had a really positive morning on my first back in clinic since I became a Mum!

I want to say a huge thank you to the very thoughtful lady who brought me a gorgeous pot of roses and a kind card to welcome me back. How lucky am I to help clients like that?

Great to pop into Summertown Clinic today and get myself set up for starting back next week! Saw some lovely colleagues and my little man loved exploring the staff room, and then promptly fell asleep in the sling whilst we had a coffee and a walk in Summertown.

My first few weeks of clinic appointments are already booked. I’m really looking forward to helping people with aches and pains to recover. I’m also hoping I can bring some extra insight and experience to pregnant clients now that I am a Mama too!

I am coming back to Summertown Clinic from 1st October - Yes, that's next Wednesday. I will be phasing my return and will start on Wednesdays and Fridays mornings.

What an enjoyable end to my best week yet as a Mama… popping in to see my crew at Summertown Clinic to introduce my Bambino.

Sweaty, pale, tired … BUZZING!! 🥳

Bonus GYM session … my 1st post birth.

And I L❤️VED it!!

I am staying in a hotel with my family for the weekend and there is a great little gym!

40 mins of uninterrupted time. All the right kit. Calm and quiet gym environment. Full body workout and a light sweat.

Before you all panic, I kept the weights light when I did use them. I still did 60% of the workout with just my own body weight ie no weights. I’m listening to my body!

I’m following all the guidelines I usually use to advise and guide clients with return to fitness after birth.
