Sweaty, pale, tired … BUZZING!! 🥳

Bonus GYM session … my 1st post birth.

And I L❤️VED it!!

I am staying in a hotel with my family for the weekend and there is a great little gym!

40 mins of uninterrupted time. All the right kit. Calm and quiet gym environment. Full body workout and a light sweat.

Before you all panic, I kept the weights light when I did use them. I still did 60% of the workout with just my own body weight ie no weights. I’m listening to my body!

I’m following all the guidelines I usually use to advise and guide clients with return to fitness after birth.

🎈 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS 🎈

Yesterday it was my birthday. 34 (!! 🤩😬 ) years on planet earth!)

🏃‍♀️ Last year, to celebrate my birthday I took part in an EPIC night run 16km running by event at the night Stonor Park in Oxfordshire run by !! Followed by pub supper, roaring fire, and time with family.

🚶‍♀️ This year I walked 2.5km round the village pushing our baby in his pram, did some squats, holding baby and partly using them as a soothing mechanism for him (as well as a opportunistic work out for me - I was not going to get it in otherwise!)

😥I cried when I couldn’t work out how to use Apple Car Play …. Then calmed down and pulled myself together (sleep deprivation, thanks a lot!)

🎈We persevered and made it to our local very lovely garden centre and my Mum treated me to coffee and cake.

🎈Birthdays are a great chance for reflection. What a difference a year makes. I am grateful for both days…. And wonder where and how I’ll be marking the year in 2025?! 🤔

🌳 WALKING FOR RECOVERY 🚶

Have you walked for recovery? After birth or otherwise? Let me know in the comments.

Within hours of giving birth I was shocked at how very uncomfortable I felt standing and walking …. I’ll be honest it was a very slow shuffle.

BUT I was then also amazed that within a few mins of slow shuffling down the corridor, perhaps to the loo, or simply to look out of a different window for a few mins, my discomfort eased.

Nothing miraculous.

But certainly “that’s a bit better”

By day 3 post birth I needed some fresh air, so walked VERY GENTLY AND SLOWLY with my Mum, to the end of my street, down the parallel street and back in a short loop. It felt good, but really slow!!

A couple days later, I did the same loop with my husband and he carried our baby in the sling. It was all a bit better comfort wise.

Day 7 the day was glorious. We had the pram set up and I walked just about 1km to post a couple of letters, and home again.

Walking is a recommendation for recovery In many guidelines for back pain recovery, pelvic floor health, bowel health, and returning to running.

I’m grateful for the power of walking 🙏

🏃‍♀️ARTHUR’S SEAT ⛰️

Have you been?

On this day last year I ran to Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland, from the city centre.

One year on, I cannot remember the distance ran or the time taken. I do remember it was tough going after celebrating at a wedding the day/ night before (Champagne, and lost sleep!) and with my husband forging the way ahead there was no let up!

I DO remember the views were breathtaking. As well as taking in the raw natural scenery we went past several city land marks.

Over the last couple years I have grown to love doing a run when I visit a place, especially a city.

I used to feel a lot of pressure to ensure I had ticked off all the things to do and see when I visited somewhere. Running has really enabled me to let go of that.

I wonder where my next run-venture will be!?!
