Hi there

Jealousy is a normal part of being human. Most of us feel it occasionally but sometimes it can take on all of the hallmarks of an OCD. If you, or a loved one, is experiencing retroactive jealousy OCD (a destructive obsession with the romantic past of your partner) then hypnotherapy could help you to find a way out.

Call me on 07786123736 or email on paul@resolvedhypnotherapy.co.uk for a conversation on hos I could help you.

Best wishes

Hello there

HOCD (Homosexual obsessive compulsive disorder) is a form of OCD which seems a little more common these days. There's nothing wrong with being LGBT, of course, but if it's not who you are then the obsessive fear that you might be gay can prove crippling, for it goes against your own deepest sense of self. If you, or a loved one, are suffering from this form of OCD then please feel free to get in touch. I'd be glad to talk. You can call me on 07786123736 or email me at paul@resolvedhypnotherapy.co.uk.

Hello all

What a week this is shaping up to be. I've been busily working with the nation's adolescents for quite some time but something has snapped this week.

On Monday alone I booked in five new clients. They were all adolescents from 13 to 16 years of age. All of them were experiencing anxiety and most of them had begun to refuse, or showed great reluctance, to go to school.

After two years of uncertainty it seems as if the chickens are finally coming home to roost for great swathes of the nation's young people. Parliament itself, despite its keenness for restrictions, knows this to be true, as the following excerpt from its website shows shows:

"According to NHS data, the mental health of children and young people in England has worsened since 2017.1 Even before the pandemic, children and young people were facing a mental health crisis...

Three lockdowns and the social distancing requirements of the pandemic have made the situation worse. Children and young people have struggled with the loss of normal social structures, being unable to socialise in person with peers and not being able to attend school or university...

Research from the Centre of Mental Health shows that, in England, 1.5 million children and young people under 18 will need new or additional mental health support as a direct consequence of the coronavirus pandemic."

It's heartbreaking to see how many children have been broken by the events of the past two years. Many of them are children with good homes, great parents and secure friendships around them. Even formerly emotionally healthy children have now had their resilience tested to breaking point.

I'm so glad to be in a position to help some of these young people to recover from what amounts to an assault upon the nation;s well-being I have devoted the majority of my life to working with adolescents, first as a teacher and now as a psychotherapist / child and adolescent counsellor.

If your child is in need of support and help then I am almost uniquely qualified to help. In Reading and Oxford I am, I believe, almost the only person qualified with a UKCP registration for both hypnotherapy and child and adolescent counselling.

Counselling is great for getting things out of your system but it doesn't, according to many of my clients, do much to equip people with coping strategies and other, practical, ways of dealing with things. Hypnotherapy is wonderful for many things but most practitioners are quite minimally trained and that training they do receive is aimed at working with adults.

As a person trained (to UKCP standards) in both disciplines, I could help your child with self-harm, OCD, depression, anxiety, school-refusal and a great many more problems besides.

CAMHS is completely overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of suffering children from whom it receives enquiries every minute of the day. If your child is suffering then perhaps I could be able to help.

It's certainly worth the price of a phone call.

Hello all

A year ago I was visited in Oxford by a doctor who was writing a book on the subject of pain. He himself had been suffering from IBS for some time and had run out of options regarding its treatment.

He came to me because he wanted to understand more of how pain could be treated with hypnotherapy. He was primarily seeking material for his book but he obviously had a personal interest also.

He and I spent some time together discussing how I work and we also worked through some approaches regarding my approach to IBS and pain management.

It seems as if this session worked for him, for his book explains how he has been almost a year without any IBS symptoms.

This book devotes three pages to how he and I worked together and explains, in several more pages, the concept of hypnotherapy and how it might be of use to those suffering from IBS and other sources of pain.

It's a serious medical book, being nominated for the Royal Society prize for books on science.

Have a read. It's available on kindle, amazon, audible and physically in hardback. I'm proud to be featured in this book and if you'd like to discuss how I might help you, as I helped him, then simply get in touch.

Best wishes

The Painful Truth: The New Science of Why We Hurt and How We Can Heal

Hello all

I hope you're well.

If you're not, however, if you're suffering then this article shows us that you are far from being alone.

Endless lockdowns, social isolation, separation from family, economic insecurity and the remorseless onslaught of government terror-ads on every media, and in our own town centre, is all a perfect petri dish for the breeding of anxiety, depression and despair.

My books have been heaving for months. I'm working with people driven to drink by sheer boredom and isolation, children depressed and listless because their social lives have been rendered illegal, people whose relationships have been wrecked by confinement, students traumatised by the su***de of housemates, students considering the nearest set of railway lines and the speed of the trains upon them: the list is horrific and endless.

If you or a loved one is suffering then there can be no shame in seeking help. There can be no shame because there are simply too many people suffering. The numbers in this newspaper article, as awful as they are, are just the numbers of people diagnosed. There are more, many more, suffering alone.

You don;t have to suffer alone. Give me a call and we can discuss how I can help you.

Best wishes

Hello all

I hope you're well and happy.

Lockdown has been hard on everybody. I spoke to a vet, yesterday, who told me that it had even been hard on pets. They pick up on the stress of their owners, he said.

It has been a long road but I'm now back to pre-covid levels of client numbers. The past few weeks has sent an enormous level of pent-up demand in my direction.

Face to face and online, great numbers of people are desperate to let go of the lockdown's drag on their mental health.

Depression, as perhaps you can imagine, is a major concern of this influx of new clients. Months of anxiety and loss has exhausted many a person and left them in the grip of despair and misery.

I love the cartoon below. It was painted by Hector Janse van Rensburg. It speaks the truth perfectly, with regard to depression.

There is no quick fix to depression. People need to develop self-compassion, a tolerance of their own emotions and to take a step by step approach. For some of my clients cleaning their own teeth is a real achievement.

I will say that hypnotherapy is a quicker approach than counselling can be but the truth is in the picture. It's one step at a time and a matter of dealing with the issues which lie beneath the mere symptoms of depression, anxiety and pain.

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. I could help you to deal with both symptoms and cause. Get in touch with me if you're ready to begin to take those first steps to freedom from depression.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello there

Divorce rates always rocket after holidays. September and January have long since been the busiest times for divorce lawyers.

Lock down has proven to be a similarly difficult time for relationships. Too much time together, combined with other stresses and strains, have seen divorce enquiries rise by 42%.

If you could look at yourself in all honesty then perhaps you could see that you are playing your pat in your relationship's difficulties. It's rarely only one person's fault.

I'm not a couples' counsellor but I could help you to resolve your part of the equation. If you know that your own issues are causing problems within your relationship then give me a call. I'm here to help.

Tomorrow I'm seeing someone who knows that he is the problem in his relationship. Over time he will come to resolve his issues and so he will come to save his marriage.

If you'd like to save your relationship then it's time to work at things, in order to do so. I'm here whenever you're ready.

Don't leave it until it's too late.

Best wishes

Hello there

I hope you're all dealing with the present situation OK. It hasn't been easy for any of us but those who had problems with regulating their feelings before the lockdown will often be finding it harder than others.

Being cooped up with nobody but family for company is, for some people. a wonderful thing. Many people feel blessed to have the extra time with their loved ones.

For others, however, it can bring pre-existing problems out into the open. If your marriage, for example, wasn't great to begin with then spending extra time together, apart from friends and extended family, can feel like hell on earth.

Some people knew that this would be the case. Others have found the surfacing of anger to be a surprise.

If you're finding that the lockdown (due to be extended today) is driving you mad then please do get in touch. I can teach you ways of regulating feelings differently, more effectively, and perhaps now is the time to resolve longer standing issues, once and for all.

Of course, this will have to be done online in the present circumstances. I'm open to using Zoom, Whatsapp or whatever currently works. I've been using such methods for years already and so can tell you that therapy online, when the therapist knows how to use such an environment, is perfectly effective.

Hi all

It has taken a good few months, between clients and studying, to build this site but now it's done. There's one small snag which I can't yet work out how to fix, but nothing is perfect and persistence wins the prize.

Have a look, have a read and bear me in mind.
