Delighted to share (with permission) some of Rob's ongoing physio journey.

His results didn't happen overnight and he has worked SO hard to get them. But Rob's success is a great example of how our bodies can adapt IF we are willing to put in consistent work.

What worked for Rob was regular but widely spaced physio sessions (1 every 4-6 weeks) and some challenging but very specific exercises tailored to his goals.

If you have something you can't do any more but want to get back to doing why not get in touch for a chat? You might be amazed at what's possible and it's never too late to try!

🐿️ Physio in a nutshell 🐿️

Or I’m a poet and I don’t know it 😂🤷‍♀️

Getting out of pain doesn’t have to be complicated. It takes commitment but the steps themselves often come down to:
🐿️ Encouraging the areas that not doing enough to do more with some strengthening..
🐿️ Encouraging the areas currently doing too much to do less with some hands on + mobility exercises.

If you’re keen to get out pain then why not drop me a message to get started? ☺️🙌

Are you approaching, going through or out the other side of menopause, and having issues with tendon inflammation?

Unfortunately, this is not a coincidence and it's something I see quite often with my clients.

The good news is there are steps you can take to help. Swipe through the carousel to learn more about tendonitis, why hormonal changes associated with perimenopause / menopause increases the risk, and what you can do about it.

If you have been struggling with any form of tendonitis (inc Achilles, tennis or golfers elbow, lateral hip, and wrist) for a while why not book in for a session? You don't have to be stuck with it and people are often amazed at how well the inflammation can settle with the right rehab program.

💥Do you ever get that that pinched locked up feeling on one side of your lower back? 💥

Then why not give the facet joint flutters a try. Swipe for more details and how to do the exercise but essentially FJFs are designed to gently gap / mobilise the facet joints (lateral joints along the spine) on the painful side of your lower back if it feels locked up or stiff. They help to:
1. Create freer movement between the facet joints themselves
2. Actively release muscle guarding which may be happening in the area
3. Relieve pressure on the nerve roots which might be being irritated or compressed

Double tap if you found this post helpful and why not save for later or send to a friend who needs to try this?

but remember, if you’re having persistent pain, PLEASE get evaluated by a physio! Social media is 🚫NOT🚫 a substitute for proper medical care!

Do your hip flexors feel permanently tight no matter how hard you try to stretch them?

Or do you find it challenging to separate your lower back / pelvis movement from your hip movement?

Then you might need to work on releasing your psoas muscles . Swipe for more info and a really effective sequence of 3 exercise to help you gently feel into and actively lengthen your psoas 🙌

Cannabidiol (CBD) for pain relief ⚡️

🪴I have had 3 clients ask me about this in the past week so I thought it was time to do a post on it!

👉Swipe through for the lowdown on the latest evidence and pros and cons of taking CBD.

💡The bottom line is:
*Talk to your Dr if you are considering trying CBD for pain management
* CBD is unlikely to be the ‘wonder cure’ for pain it’s marketed as
* But it might be useful as part of a holistic pain management plan, alongside physio, and other treatments.

⚡️If you have been living with pain for a while why not get in touch to see how I can help?

⚠️Disclaimer: This is not a substitute for medical advice so please do talk to you Dr first before trying out CBD products - *especially if you are on other medication*.

✨Thrilled to share a huge client win (with permission) with you all, and also a reminder about the importance of the serratus anterior muscle for shoulder function.

⚡️My client had some damage to the nerve which supplies serratus anterior and as a result presented with this classic ‘winged scapula’, limited forward reach and an inability to raise his arm above 90degs.

💫Serratus anterior keeps the shoulder blade sitting correctly on the rib cage. It is also responsible for protracting the shoulder blade (moving it forwards around the rib cage) and assists in upwards rotation (vital for allowing the arms to move overhead properly).

✨ These pictures were taken about 6 weeks apart after some intensive physio and ALOT of hard work from my clients with his rehab. He now has most his shoulder function back and is able to row again which was his main goal. 🥳

Do you recognise any of these issues with your shoulders (even if less dramatic?). If so why not get in touch to see what might be possible for you? It is amazing what the body can heal when given the right set of conditions.

Long post alert TW: ED

Many years ago, I was driving around the outskirts of Zurich trying to find parking. I ended up on a road with a church and a gym opposite each other. I remarked to my friend that this was cool as one could choose to exercise or exorcise one’s demons. We chuckled at my dodgy pun and moved on but the phrase ‘exercising demons’ stuck with me.

At the time it felt particularly appropriate. I was nearing the end of my DPhil, had recently recovered from anorexia, and (like a lot of recovered/ recovering people with EDs ) swapped my obsession with food for one about exercise….

It seemed like the ideal trade - exercise had allowed me to get back to a healthy weight, I was strong and very fit. Pushing my body hard made my brain go blissfully quiet, plus the endorphins released acted as great antidepressants. I was exercising my demons and it was great.

Except, in reality, my demons were exercising me.

I could not get on with my day unless I had worked out. I was unable to take rest days & pushed myself to exercise, even when I was ill or exhausted. And laterly, overtraining injuries became more common. This pattern continued for another 5 years when my body finally decided enough was enough and forced me to stop. I ended up in hospital and struggled with burnout and chronic fatigue for a long time afterwards. I had to develop a new sustainable relationship with exercises which was hard and deeply frustrating but ultimately much better for my body and mental health long term.

Much is written about the benefits of exercise for mental health maintenance and it IS wonderful in many ways. However, it can be addictive and as one of my clients recently referred to it ‘a form of controlled self harm’. It also seems that people who are using exercise to help them get over an addiction or compulsive behaviour are more susceptible to developing obsessive exercise patterns.
