🌿 Emotional Health Day – Prioritise YOUR Well-being 💙

Life can feel overwhelming, and emotions can sometimes weigh us down. Today, take a moment to pause and check in with yourself—how are you really feeling?

✨ Here are a few small but powerful ways to nurture your emotional well-being:
💨 Breathe – Slow, deep breaths can instantly calm your mind.
🚶‍♀️ Move – A walk in nature or gentle stretching can release tension.
🗣 Talk – Opening up to someone you trust can lighten the load.
😴 Rest – Prioritise quality sleep to recharge your body and mind.
💖 Be kind to yourself – Self-compassion is essential.

But what if emotions feel too deep, or stress is hard to shake? 🤔

This is where hypnotherapy can make a real difference. By working with your subconscious, hypnotherapy helps break negative thought patterns, ease anxiety, and restore emotional balance. Whether you're struggling with stress, trauma, phobias, or emotional blocks, hypnotherapy offers a gentle yet transformative way to heal.

💡 Ready to feel lighter, calmer, and more in control? Linda Flanigan, Clinical Hypnotherapist and NLP Practitioner, is here to support you. A conversation could be the first step toward emotional freedom. 💙

📩 Get in touch today. Your well-being matters.

We're upgrading our Systems!

After 17 years with TM3 we are moving on! We are currently shifting everything over to Nookal, a new, more innovative practice management system that several other innovative clinics have moved to as well. It will offer a more robust online booking experience and mean we can further improve your experience at our clinic.

Things might be a little intermittent on our Online Booking as we move across so please bear with us, and remember you're more than welcome to give our friendly receptionists a ring on 01865 558561 if you need help.

Thanks for your patience (things should be back to normal by Monday!)

🎗️🌸 **Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness at Summertown Clinic!** 🌸🎗️

Last Friday, several of our wonderful team members came together in pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness. Our osteopath Atlanta Kyte, foot health practitioner Nicola Ruddick, and massage therapist Audri Schaay all donned bright pink clinic coats, standing united to raise awareness for such an important cause.

At Summertown Clinic, we’re dedicated to supporting health and wellbeing in every way we can. It was a fantastic day of solidarity and an important reminder to stay proactive about breast health. Thank you to our team and all who contribute to this meaningful cause! 💖

👨‍⚕️ Practitioner Spotlight: Meet James Ruddick 👨‍⚕️

This Back Care Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the experts at Summertown Clinic who are helping our patients live pain-free. Today, we’re sitting down with our Clinical Director and osteopath, James Ruddick, to get his insights on back health.

Q: What are the most common back issues you see in patients?
James: "Many of the patients we see suffer from lower back pain, often triggered by everyday activities like gardening, lifting, or work-related strain. One of the biggest challenges for people is understanding what's causing their pain, especially with so many myths and well-meaning but conflicting advice circulating. It's crucial to not only understand the pain they're presenting with, but also to know the right steps to recovery—so you can come back even stronger. I particularly enjoy helping patients with severe radiating (usually into their leg or foot) back pain, such as sciatica. It's incredibly rewarding to guide them on the path to recovery, seeing them return to their daily activities and doing the things they love."

Q: What’s your number one piece of advice for people experiencing back pain?
James: "Movement is essential. I always advise my patients to stay active, even if it's just gentle stretching throughout the day. Small adjustments, like avoiding low sofas and incorporating regular, light movement, can have a big impact. It's also important to understand why the pain behaves a certain way so that you can make informed decisions about managing and preventing future issues."

Q: What can someone expect when they come to Summertown Clinic for treatment?
James: "We take a highly personalised approach. First, we carefully listen to each patient’s story, not just to understand the physical cause of their pain, but also to appreciate their values and beliefs around it. After a thorough case history, we carry out a detailed examination, which may involve removing some clothing to fully assess the affected area—though we always respect our patients' comfort levels. From there, we explain our findings, helping them understand the underlying cause of their back pain and often considering other factors like lifestyle and overall health. Treatment typically involves hands-on techniques such as manipulation, soft tissue massage, and exercises designed to restore movement and function."

Thanks to James and the rest of our team for their dedication to helping our community live healthier, more active lives! 🙌

Our Story

Established in 1973 by David and Kerry Ruddick and brought to it’s current location at 362 Banbury Road in 1975, Summertown Clinic is Oxford’s longest established centre of osteopathy and complementary therapy.

We really aim to give all our patients the best possible experience and to make them feel valued, cared for and listened to. Our hand picked practitioners are all well experienced and this has led us to achieving many accolades, and we have won several national awards for our work; these have included winning the CAM clinic of the year award, the IO practice of the year award, and Principal of the year award, as well as our practitioners winning the IO associate of the year award, and the BCA Chiropractor of the year award.

Now that David and Kerry have retired, James and Jo (their son and daughter) run the practice with Claire (James’ wife). Our family values have helped shape our clinic that has the nurturing and caring qualities throughout our work, this includes our staff (some of whom have worked with us for over 20 years), and our practitioners some of whom have been with us for 35 years!

We hope that you enjoy visiting us, and we aim to provide the best health care experience we can.
